National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) is a premier National Institution of excellence in
rural development engaged in building capacities of rural development officials, elected
representatives, individuals and institutions through national and international training, research,
teaching and consultancy. NIRD’s contributions are appreciated worldwide.
About the Programmes: NIRD is commencing its Fifth One Year PG Diploma in Sustainable Rural
Development Programme and Second One year PG Diploma Programme in Tribal
DevelopmentManagement in Distance Mode from 1st January 2014. The Admission of candidates
in the above two Programmes will be done twice in a year (January and July). For the Academic
Year which starts from January, 2014 the admission process will be completed by December,
2013. The candidates who are admitted in the month of January will have to complete the
programme by December. For those admitted in July, the second Academic Year will from
July,2014 to June,2015. The candidates who are admitted in the month of July will have to
complete the Programmeby June, 2015. The Programmes will be offered through two semesters
with 16 credits each. The PG Diplomas will be awarded by the NIRD.
Special Features : Printed self-instructional material and proximate Contact Centers spread
across the country.Participation in Contact Session is not compulsory and it will carry no marks.
However, those Students participating in them will be benefitted.
Examinations :Each Course (100 Marks) offered in any Semester will have 30 Marks for the
continuous Evaluation through Assignments and 70 Marks for Semester End Examinations. The
Students will also have to undertake a Project relating to Rural Development in the Second
Semester whichwill also carry 100 Marks .Eligibility: A Graduate degree in any discipline from a UGC recognized University. For foreign
applicants, degree of their University should be recognized by their Government and their
competence in English should be ensured.
Duration: One year, Medium of Instruction : English
Programme Fee:Rs. 20,000/- (Rs. 18,000/- for SC/ST/PH), to be deposited in two equal
installments at the commencement of each Semester. For sponsored candidates, full Fee will
have to be deposited at the time of admission. Fee for NRIs and foreign nationals is $ 1700 to be
paid at the time of admission.
How to apply: The Application Forms and Information Brochure can be downloaded from NIRD’s
Website www.nird.org.in. The filled-in Applications accompanied by a Demand Draft for Rs.
500/- (Rs. 300/- for SC/ST/PH candidates) drawn in favour of “NIRD-DEC-PGD-SRD” payable at
Hyderabad, towards Application Fee (No Application Fee for NRIs and Foreign Nationals)along
with attested copies of the required Certificates as mentioned in the Application Forms should
reach ProgrammeDirector, Distance Education Cell, National Institute of Rural Development,
Rajendranagar, Hyderabad – 500 030 (A.P), India.
The last date for receipt of filled in applications is 29-11-2013 for admission in the month of
