Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology is an autonomous research organization of
Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, undertaking advance level of research in all
aspects of geology and geodynamics of the Himalaya. It has strong specialization in the areas of
Petrology and Geochemistry, Structure and Tectonics, Sedimentology, Geomorphology,
Glaciology, Magnetostratigraphy, Biostratigraphy, Paleontology, Quaternary Geology,
Environment Geology, Seismology and Remote Sensing. The Institute also houses modern
analytical laboratories. To encourage young students/researchers to make career in Earth Sciences,
the Institute has doctoral program and offers Research Associateships to fresh Ph.D. students. To
promote research in emerging areas of Earth Sciences, the institute also undertakes sponsored
projects.
The Institute invites applications from eligible Indian citizens for the following positions:-
1. SCIENTIST ‘D’ :
Scale of Pay : PB – 3: `15,600-39,100 + Grade Pay ` 7,600/-
Age limit : Not exceeding 45 years as on the date of
advertisement.
Essential Qualifications : Doctoral degree in Paleoclimatology, Stable Isotope
geochemistry, Mass Spectrometry, Aquous Geochemistry, Igneous Petrology, Structure &
Tectonics, Sedimentology, Mathematical modeling of climate/tectonics/ glaciers, Computational
Seismology with M.Sc. or M.Tech or M.Phil in Geology/Geophysics/Physics/Chemistry with 1st
division in M.Sc. and eight years of post doctoral experience with outstanding research publications
of merit and leadership in the areas.
3. SCIENTIST ‘C’ :
Scale of Pay : PB-3: ` 15,600-39,100 + Grade Pay ` 6,600/-
Age limit : Not exceeding 40 years as on the date of
advertisement.
Essential qualification: Ph.D. degree in Geology with four years research experience at postdoctoral level in the areas of Structure & Tectonics, Mathematical modeling, Sedimentology,
Glaciology, Igneous Petrology, Geochronology, Isotope/Aquous Geochemistry, Computational
Seismology, Palynology and paleomagnetism with 1
st division in M.Sc. in
Geology/Geophysics/Physics/Chemistry with outstanding research publications.
The candidates with demonstrated experience in maintaining/operating EPMA, Stable
Isotope Mass Spectrometer or any modern analytical geoscience laboratories and mathematical
modeling of geological process will be given preference.

[A] For one post of Scientist ‘B’ under General Category:-
(i) Essential qualification : First class in M.E./M.Tech. in Electrical/Electronics/
Instrumentation or combination of any two.
Or
First class B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation or combination of any two with
two years experience in handling/maintenance & repair of scientific equipment/instruments.
(ii) Desirable qualification : Ph.D in the relevant discipline.
[B] For other posts, including reserved category posts:-
Essential qualification : First class M.Sc. degree in Geology/Geophysics/
Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics.

Research experience in Computational seismology,
stable isotope geochemistry, sedimentology, economic
geology, paleomagnetism, mathematical modeling of
geodynamic processes, glaciology, Geomorphology,
Environmental Geosciences, Paleoclimatology using
speleothem proxies and Structures and Tectonics.
8. SENIOR PERSONAL ASSISTANT :
Scale of Pay : PB-2: ` 9,300-34,800 + Grade Pay ` 4,600/-
Age limit : 35 years as on the date of advertisement (Relaxable
by 5 years for departmental candidates)
Essential qualification : (1) Graduate of a recognized University and
possessing a speed of 120 w.p.m. in shorthand and
40 w.p.m. in typing.
(2) Experience in stenography work: 8 years in the pay
scale of PB-1: ` 5,200-20,200 + ` 2,800/- G.P. or
5 years in the pay scale of PB-2: ` 9,300-34,800 +
` 4,200/- G.P. or equivalent.
Desirable qualification : Experience of handling correspondence independently
and preparation of briefs/records/minutes of meetings.

and possessing a speed of 120 w.p.m. in English
shorthand and 40 w.p.m. in typing.
10. SECTION CUTTER, Gr.II (1) : One Post
Scale of Pay : PB – 1: ` 5,200-20,200 + Grade Pay ` 1,900/-
Age limit : Not exceeding 28 years as on the date of
advertisement.
Essential Qualifications : High School with two years experience in the
relevant field.
11. LOWER DIVISION CLERK (LDC) :
Scale of Pay : PB-1: ` 5,200-20,200 + Grade Pay ` 1,900.00
Age limit : Between 18 & 27 years as on the date of
advertisement.
Essential qualification: (1) Intermediate or equivalent.
(2) English typing speed of 35 w.p.m. or Hindi typing
speed of 30 w.p.m. on computer.
(Time allowed – 10 mts.)
(35 w.p.m./ 30 w.p.m. correspond to 10,500
KDPH/9000 KDPH on an average of 5 key
depression for each word)
Desirable qualification: (1) Graduate.
(2) A Government of India recognized
diploma/certificate in computer.
Internal Group ‘C’ candidates working in similar fields in PB-1 + Grade pay of ` 1800/- in
their regular post and with age not exceeding 40 years for general category candidates, 43 years for
OBC candidates and 45 years for SC/ST candidates may also apply for the post if meeting the
essential educational qualifications.

13. FIELD – CUM - LAB -ATTENDANT :

Scale of Pay : PB – 1: ` 5,200-20,200 + Grade Pay ` 1,800/-
Age limit : Not exceeding 25 years as on the date of
advertisement.
Essential Qualifications : High School
Desirable Qualifications : Computer Knowledge.
15. BEARER :
Scale of Pay : PB-1: ` 5,200-20,200 + Grade Pay ` 1,800.00
Age limit : Between 18 and 25 years as on the date of
advertisement.
Essential qualification: : Matriculation or equivalent.
Desirable qualification: : Experience of working in Govt. office/Autonomous
bodies etc.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION/CONDITIONS/INSTRUCTIONS:-
(i) The qualifications and experience mentioned are the minimum requirements. The
Institute reserves the right to select the candidates based on their qualifications and
experience other wise suitable and deserving for the post. The Institute also reserves the
right to shortlist candidates through a written test, if the number of candidates screened
in is found to be very large.
(ii) In case the employees holding lien on the lien vacancies do not repatriate on expiry of
their lien/extended lien periods, services of the candidates selected against the lien
vacancies will be regularized.
(iii) Age relaxation by maximum five years for the candidates belonging to the SC/ST
category or for physically handicapped persons and 3 years for the candidates of OBC
category will be allowed. Age, relaxation for Ex-service man and physically handicapped
candidates will also be available as per the Govt. of India rules. The decision of the
Institute on short-listing will be final and the Institute will not entertain any
correspondence in this regard.
(iv) Selected candidates will be appointed initially on probation basis. Continuation of their
service will depend on satisfactory clearance of probation. Selected candidates not
having working knowledge of Rajbhasha, Hindi will have to acquire working knowledge
of Hindi before clearance of their probation periods. The candidates selected to these
posts, if otherwise, eligible as per CCS pay rules will be governed by the New Pension
Scheme.

(v) A panel of candidates found suitable will be prepared. Institute reserves the right to fill
any vacancy arising during the validity of the panel from such panel prepared.
(vi) Additional information, if any, in support of candidate’s suitability for the post, may be
mentioned in a separate sheet duly authenticated by the candidate with his signature, if
the space is insufficient on the Application Performa.
(vii) Only selected candidates will be informed about their selection in due course on
completion of their selection process and no other correspondence on the subject will be
entertained.
(viii) Institute will not be responsible for late/non receipt of call letters for test/interview due to
postal delay.
(ix) Convassing in any form will lead to disqualification.
(x) Candidates working in Govt. Establishments, Public Sector Undertakings,
Universities and Autonomous bodies should apply through proper channel.
(xi) In case of the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category, attested copies of Caste
Certificate MUST accompany the application form, failing which age relaxation may not
be allowed.
(xii) If a candidate applies for more than one post, he/she must submit separate application
forms for each of the posts.
(xiii) In case of reserved vacancies, candidates must clearly mention in the application
performa the category against any post for which application has been submitted by
him/her, failing which his/her application will be considered against General Category
only.

www.wihg.res.in Interested candidates can download the Application Performa from our
Website and submit their applications only in the prescribed Performa alongwith attested
photocopies of certificates and marksheets, in a support of educational qualification, Typing speed
Hindi & English and certificates in support of experience, duly attested by, a Gazetted Officer, to
the Registrar, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, 33, General Mahadeo Singh Road,
Dehradun-248001 (Uttarakhand) latest by 4:00 p.m. on 29.11.2013. Applications not submitted
in the prescribed format will not be considered. Applications received after the scheduled closing
date or not accompanied by required certificates/documents or otherwise found incomplete or
unsigned will not be considered. Late or delayed applications will also not be entertained.
