Advertisement for Admission to Ph.D. Program
In Department of Electronic Science
Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. Program in the Department of Electronic
Science. Candidates willing to pursue the research work leading subsequently to Ph.D. (Science)
degree in Electronic Science of the University of Calcutta should apply in the prescribed proforma
downloadable from University website (www.caluniv.ac.in). The application form accompanied by the
counterpart of a challan (obtainable from the sales counter of the University at its College Street
campus) of Rs. 100/- should be submitted to the office of the Secretary, University College of Science
at the above address. The challan must be endorsed by the Head of the Department before
deposition of fees at any cash counter of the University.
The eligible candidate will have to appear at a written examination to be held in the
Department, the details of which are appended below. Successful candidates will have to appear for
an interview/counseling. The final selection for joining the Ph.D. Program of this Department, along
with the allocation of supervisor; will be made on the basis of this interview/counseling.
Candidates who have already cleared UGC-CSIR (JRF) NET/GATE/SET/Teacher Fellowship
or passed the M.Phil./M.Tech./equivalent examination are exempted from appearing for the admission
test but have to directly appear at the interview.

2. Date of Admission Test (Written): 11.11.2013
3. Date of declaration of the list of successful candidates eligible for interview: 18.11.2013
(result will be displayed on the notice board of the Department)
4. Date of Interview/Counseling: 22.11.2013
5. Date of notification of the list of successful candidates: 29.11.2013 (result will be displayed
on the notice board of the Department)
6. Venue of Admission Test and Interview/Counseling: Department of Electronic Science,
Meghnad Saha Bhavan, 92, A. P. C. Road, Kolkata – 700 009.
7. Maximum No. of Ph.D. Students to be admitted (subject to the above admission criteria): 06
Reservation as per norm.
8. Syllabus: Topics covered in B.Sc. (Honours) and M.Sc. courses in Electronic Science with
good emphasis on Electronics and Physics.
9. Question Pattern: Multiple Choice Questions
The list of successful candidates called for interview on the basis of entrance test and other
exemption criteria and that of finally selected candidates will be displayed in the Department
notice board. No separate call letter will be issued and no TA/DA is admissible for appearing at
the test/interview/counseling.
