NOTIFICATION FOR FACULTY RECRUITMENT – 2013
(Faculty openings in Technology, Science, Architecture and Management at NIT Calicut, Kerala)

National Institute of Technology Calicut, Kerala, established under Act XXIX/ 2007of the Parliament
is one of the leading technological institutions in the Country with nearly 6000 students enrolled for
various UG, PG and Ph.D. programmes in Technology, Science, Architecture and Management. The
Institute invites applications from Indian nationals, possessing consistent excellent academic record,
commitment to quality teaching and potential for carrying out outstanding research, for the post of
Assistant Professors in various departments against the backlog reserved vacancies for Scheduled
Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Communities (OBC) and Persons with Disabilities
(PWDs) and also under open merit quota as detailed below. Candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC
desirous of considering for selection under UR category also shall specifically indicate so in column 4.
Reservation quota for PWDs will be counted against the respective community. Young, meritorious,
dynamic and student friendly academicians are welcome to join hands with the existing team in their
effort to transform this Institute to a world class educational institution.

Candidates possessing Ph.D. degree will be considered for appointment on contract basis initially.
They will be considered for movement to AGP `7000 after one year of satisfactory performance.
Meritorious candidates possessing M.Tech./M.Phil. (*) with remarkably good potential to carry out
outstanding research and already pursuing Ph.D. or aspiring to pursue Ph.D. will also be considered for
appointment on contract, initially for a period of 3 years, extendable for a further period of 2 years on a
year to year basis or till the candidate acquires Ph.D. degree whichever is earlier. Renewal of contract
will be done on an annual basis, subject to satisfactory progress of Ph.D. work, good conduct and good
performance in teaching. Faculty appointed on contract basis will not be treated as regular staff till
they are regularized, subject to the conditions stated earlier. The Institute has adopted 4-tier flexible
faculty structure recommended by MHRD.

* Candidates should have passed both Bachelors and Masters degree through regular program in the
desired branch of study with minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10). For SC/ST candidates, the
minimum is 55% marks (CGPA 6.0/10).
Vacancies that are likely to arise in a period of one year will be filled up from the rank list prepared
during the interviews, subject to clearance of a proposal in this regard by the Board of Governors
(BoG) of the Institute. Candidates applying for reserved vacancies will have to submit attested copy of
the relevant certificate issued by competent revenue authority of the place of domicile of the candidates
clearly authenticating the category to which they belong along with the application and enter the
category and community name in the relevant column of the application form. Candidates applying for
posts reserved for OBCs and PWDs shall have to submit the relevant certificate issued by appropriate
authorities and also a certificate for eligibility to apply for posts reserved under the respective category.
All certificates and testimonials submitted by the applicants are subject to verification with the
respective authorities. In the event of genuinity and eligibility of the certificates proven wrong/ false,
candidature/ appointment will be cancelled forthwith.

Interested candidates within the prescribed age limit may send the applications in the prescribed format
along with copies of certificates proving eligibility in sealed covers superscribing ‘Application for
faculty position in NIT Calicut’ and addressed to The Registrar, NIT Calicut, NIT Campus P.O.,
Calicut, Kerala -673 601 on or before 29.11.2013 by speed/ registered post. Candidates already
employed in Government/Quasi-Government undertakings shall forward their applications
through proper channel. The application along with all attachments should be neatly tagged below a
covering letter to the NIT Calicut, containing a brief self-appraisal and also stating how you can
contribute to the growth of the Institute, if you are appointed. Originals of all certificates should be
produced at the time of interview. Shortlisted candidates residing in India will have to appear for an
interview in person and candidates stationed abroad may appear through video conferencing on the
date and time fixed for the interview. NRI applicants shall submit the original certificates for
verification as and when called for during the process of selection. All candidates will be paid to and
fro sleeper class train fare from the railway station nearest to the residence of the candidate in
India on production of tickets. Request for any change in the date and time allotted for interview will
not be entertained. Those who have already applied for a faculty position against the standing
advertisement published in the Institute website during the last three years shall also apply
afresh as per this notification.
The Institute reserves all the rights regarding faculty selection as per this advertisement - such as right
to call all the candidates or only short listed candidates found eligible for interview or to defer or
cancel the selection process without assigning any reason whatsoever. The decision of the Institute in
this regard will be final and binding on all. No interim communication on the status of selection will be
entertained. Mere satisfaction of the minimum criteria may not entitle an applicant to be short listed and called for interview. Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification. During the
interview, the candidates may be required to deliver a demo-lecture for 5-10 minutes on any topic in
their respective discipline other than their area of research. Personal call letters to the eligible
candidates for interview will be sent through Registered Post and email. List of candidates called for
interview will be put up in the Institute website. Candidates should confirm their willingness to appear
for the interview by reply e-mail.
