Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research,
Puducherry (JIPMER) under Government of India since the year 1956, is one of
the leading Medical Institutions of India. Spread over a sprawling 195 acre
campus in an urban locale of Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry) JIPMER is
170kms. by road from Chennai.
JIPMER was declared as an Institution of National Importance by a
Parliamentary Act, i.e. JIPMER, Puducherry, Act, 2008. A copy of the Act was
Gazette notified on 14-7-2008 to enforce this Act. Prior to this the Institute was
functioning under the administrative control of Directorate General of Health
Service, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi.
The Institution is now empowered to award Medical Degrees, Diplomas, etc.,
under the clauses 23 & 24 of the said Act. Such Degrees / Diploma, etc., shall be
deemed to be included in the schedules to the respective Acts governing
Medical Council of India, Indian Nursing Council and Dental Council of India,
entitling the holders to the same privileges as those attached to the equivalent
awards from the recognized Universities of India.
Admission to all Professional Courses at JIPMER is through an Entrance
Examination conducted by JIPMER at various centers in India once a year. In
addition certain categories of students are admitted through nominations by the
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
JIPMER imparts Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG) and Super Specialty
Medical Training through a working hospital (JIPMER Hospital) with a bed
strength of 2559 and a Nursing College. B.Sc.(Nursing) with 75 seats,
M.Sc.(Nursing) with 25 seats in 5 Disciplines Child Health Nursing, Community
Health Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Mental Health Nursing & Obstetrics &
Gynaecology Nursing are offered. M.B.B.S., B.Sc., M.Sc., M.D., M.S, Degree
Courses are also offered in 37 various disciplines. Super Specialty departments
of Cardiology, Neurology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology,
Plastic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Neonatology, Clinical Immunology, Clinical
Pharmacology, Clinical Hematology, Nephrology, Medical Oncology,
Endocrinology, Surgical Oncology and Surgical Gastroenterology also offer D.M.
/ M.Ch. Courses. Full-time Ph.D. Programs are available in eight disciplines as on
date.

POST BASIC DIPLOMA IN NURSING
Duration of the course: 1 year Medium of Instruction: English
Objectives of the Course: At the end of the course, the students will be able to develop an
understanding of philosophy, principles and standards of nursing care in the respective
specialty area. The Course is designed to prepare registered nurses with specialized
knowledge, skills and attitude in providing advance quality care to patients in the respective
specialty area. Furthermore, this course will enable them to develop skills and attitude in
providing competent nursing care in the respective specialty area.

The total number and distribution of seats are subject to change based on the
outcome of various cases pending in courts and periodic directives from the
Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. 6
Eligibility:
Must be a registered nurse (R.N. & R.M.) or equivalent.
Possess Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery with one year experience as
Staff Nurse or B.Sc.Nursing or equivalent.
The prescribed experience will be calculated only after obtaining the license from
the state nursing council.
Age limit – 40 years and relaxable for SC/ST/OBC/Service candidates as per
Government rules.
STIPEND:
Rs.10, 000/- would be paid as stipend every month during the course of one year
study period with free Hostel accommodation.
Stipend will not be paid for the extension period, for the reasons like detention due to
ineligible internal marks and/or attendance, medical reasons etc.
DURATION TO COMPLETE THE COURSE:
The maximum period to complete the course successfully should not exceed two
years.
DISCONTINUATION OF THE COURSE:
If in case a candidate discontinues the course with 24 hours notice, a penalty of
Rs.25,000/- along with the one month stipend of Rs.10,000/- need to be paid to the
institute for getting relieved.
If the candidate discontinues the course with one month notice, a penalty of
Rs.25,000/- alone, has to be paid to the institute for getting relieved.
Method of selection:
(i) The Entrance Examination is a paper based test administration. The Entrance
Examination will be conducted in English medium only. The syllabus for the
entrance examination will be Nursing curriculum and will have 100 Multiple
Choice Questions (MCQ) of single best response type. The duration of the test is
one and half hours.
(ii) Each answer with correct response will be given four marks and one mark shall
be deducted for incorrect response. More than one answer indicated against the
question will be deemed as incorrect response. 7
(iii) In case of equal marks the candidates, scoring less negative marks shall be
ranked higher. In case of continued tie, the candidate senior in age shall rank
higher to a candidate who is junior in age. If there is still a tie, lots will be drawn.
(iv) The Merit list will be drawn Category-wise. Allotment of seats will be done
through counseling as per the Roster Point Reservation (refer Appendix I). The
results will be displayed in the Notice Board and in the website
www.jipmer.edu.in there will be no individual communication.
(v) Break of study will not be granted under any circumstances including
medical grounds. Students can leave the course mid-way only by
discontinuing the course.
General Conditions on Selection:
(i) The Entrance Examination is a paper based test administration and will have 100

(ii) All Unreserved (UR) candidates securing less than 50% marks and OBC /
Scheduled Caste / Tribe candidates securing less than 40% marks in the Entrance
Examination will not be considered for admission of JIPMER and their names will
not be included in the merit list.
(iii) If eligible OPH/OBC / SC / ST candidates are not available the seats remaining
unfilled shall be filled by eligible candidates from Unreserved Category.
(iv) There is no provision for sponsored / nominated candidates.
(v) Results as well as dates for counseling and the list of candidates called for
counseling shall be displayed in Notice Board of Academic Section JIPMER and in
JIPMER website www.jipmer.edu.in only.
(vi) Any information on the schedule of examination, roll numbers and venues of
examination, merit list, counseling information will be published in the JIPMER
website. Candidates in their own interest are advised to browse the website
www.jipmer.edu.in for updated information.
(vii) Proportional allocation of seats and interval fixing at the time of counseling will be
based on Model Roster of Reservation (Vide Appendix I) and share of entitlement.
Representation of each of the reserved category shall at no point of time exceed
the reservation prescribed for it.
Fees once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances.

DEFINITION OF CATEGORIES:
UR – Unreserved stands for all applicants including OCI (Overseas Citizen of India).
Institute (INST) – Institute category stands for an applicant who has studied and obtained
his / her B.Sc.Nursing Degree from JIPMER. The word Institute is not applicable to any
other Medical Institution for the purpose of category.
Other Backward Classes (OBC) - Applies to candidates whose sub-caste is notified in the
Central List of OBC. OBC candidates claiming reservation of seat should not belong to
Creamy Layer. OBC Certificate must be in the format as mentioned in the Appendix. The
certificate must be issued by the Competent Revenue Authority (vide Appendix II).
OBC candidates claiming reservation of seat should not belong to Creamy Layer.
The last three year’s Income Tax Returns of their parents ending 31.03.2013 as proof
of Non-Creamy Layer status should be produced at the time of counseling along with
the original OBC Certificate to verify the claim of a seat under this category by the
Applicant.
Income certificate from competent Revenue Authority can be produced in case the
parents are not filing any income tax.
Wherever the parents are employed in Government / Public Sector Enterprises, a
recent certificate from their employer indicating their Designation and Class / Group
has also to be submitted for their claim of seat under OBC category (Vide Appendix -
III).
Scheduled Caste / Tribe (SC / ST) - The seats are reserved for the candidates belonging
to Scheduled Castes (SC) / Scheduled Tribes (ST) as per Government Instructions,
provided candidates fulfill the minimum admission requirements prescribed by the Institute
for the purpose. The candidate belonging to Scheduled Castes / Tribes are required to
furnish certificate from the District Magistrate / Additional District Magistrate / Collector / 1st
Class Stipendiary Magistrate / Sub Divisional Magistrate, Taluka Magistrate / Executive
Magistrate / Extra Assistant Chief Presidency Magistrate / Presidency Magistrate, Revenue
Officer not below the rank of Tahsildar, Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the
candidate and / or his family normally resides, Administrator / Secretary to Administrator /
Development Officer (Lakshadweep islands) in support of their claims (vide Appendix III). If
the certificates are not in English an English translation of their caste certificate duly attested
by a Gazetted Officer should also be produced.

OPH – Orthopedic Physically Challenged – the term is applicable to persons with
locomotory disability confined only to lower limbs between 50% to 70% who would be
allowed the benefit of reservation under the Disability Act for admission in the medicine
courses.
3% reservations for orthopedic physically challenged shall be provided on horizontal basis, in
the seats available as per their rank in the merit. If requisite numbers of qualified candidates
are not available to fill up the seats reserved for the category OPH / OBC / SC / ST, the
same shall be filled from out of the candidates belonging to the UR.
a) Other Criteria for Orthopedic Physically Challenged: The candidate must possess
a valid document certifying his / her physical disability conforming to judgment of
Supreme Court of India directive
i. Reservation in admission to the course in the first instance is provided to
candidates with disability of lower limbs between 50% to 70% and in
case eligible candidates are not available, then the candidates with
disability of lower limbs between 40% to 50% will be considered for
admission.
ii. Candidates suffering less than 40% disability are not eligible for the
benefit of reservation under OPH category.
iii. The disability certificate should be produced by a duly constituted and
authorized Medical Board of the State or Central Govt. Hospitals /
Institutions.

APPLICATION
AVAILABILITY:
The Prospectus and Instructions can be downloaded from the JIPMER Website.
Submission of Application Through On-Line Process Only.
MODE OF PAYMENT
Demand draft drawn in favour of “The Accounts Officer, JIPMER”, Payable at
Pondicherry.
Candidate should download a Copy of the Application and send the same along with the
Demand Draft to The Registrar (Academic) JIPMER so as to reach on or before the last
date for online registration.
Online Application User Interface provided in the Annexure.
Fees once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances.
FILLING UP THE FORM:
(i) The candidate, before filling-in the form, shall satisfy his/her eligibility to appear in
the examination.
(ii) It will be the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that he/she fills-in his/her
correct address in the application form.
PHOTOGRAPH:
The Photograph must be snapped with a placard while the placard is being held by the
candidate indicating name of candidate and date of taking photograph. In case name and
date are written on the photograph after taking it, the application will be rejected. The name
and date on the photograph should be legible.
ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
HALL TICKET:
(1) The Hall Ticket will bear the photograph, date & time of Entrance Examination and
Candidate’s Details – Name, Date of Birth, Roll No., and the address of the Candidate.
(2) Candidates are advised to preserve their Hall Ticket, which is mandatory for
admission/Counseling. 11
INSTRUCTIONS TO BE FOLLOWED IN THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION:
(i) Candidate taking the Entrance Examination will be subjected to thorough frisking
before being allowed into the hall at the stipulated time.
(ii) The candidate must show, on demand, the Hall Ticket for admission in the
Examination Hall. A candidate who does not possess the Hall Ticket issued by
JIPMER shall not be admitted to the Examination Hall under any circumstances by
the Centre Superintendent.
(iii) During the examination time, the invigilator will check Hall Ticket of the candidates to
satisfy himself/herself about the identity of each candidate.
(iv) A seat with a roll number will be allotted to each candidate. Candidates must find out
and occupy their allotted seats. If a candidate is found appearing in the Examination
from a seat or room other than the one allotted to him/her, his/her candidature shall
be cancelled.
(v) A candidate who comes 30 minutes after the commencement of the
examination shall not be permitted to sit in the examination.
(vi) Candidates are not allowed to carry any textual material, printed or written, bits of
paper and any other material except the Hall Ticket inside the Examination Hall.
(vii) Pens, Calculator, Slide Rules, Log Table, Geometry Box, Electronic Digital Watches
with facilities of calculators, cellular Phones, pagers or any other electronic gadget
are not allowed inside the Examination Hall.
(viii) No candidate, without the special permission of the Centre Superintendent or the
Invigilator concerned, will leave his/her seat or the Examination Room until the final
bell is rung. Candidates should not leave the Hall without handing over their Answer
Sheets to the invigilator on duty.
(ix) BALL-POINT PEN WILL BE PROVIDED IN THE HALL BY THE INVIGILATOR.
Do not bring your pen to the Examination Hall.
(x) Tea, Coffee, cold drinks or snacks are not allowed to be taken by the candidates into
the Examination Hall during examination hours.
(xi) The Test will start exactly at the time mentioned in the Hall Ticket and an
announcement to this effect will be made by the invigilator.
(xii) A bell will be rung at the beginning of the examination and at the closing time. The
candidate must stop marking the responses/writing the answer.
(xiii) The candidate must sign in the Attendance Sheet at the appropriate place and affix
the left index finger impression against the appropriate column of the Attendance
Sheet. Failure to comply with this requirement will lead to the annulling of his/her
candidature without any prior intimation.
(xiv) For those who are unable to appear on the scheduled date of examination for any
reason, re-examination shall not be held by JIPMER under any circumstances.

(xv) UNFAIR MEANS:
(a) If during the course of examination, a candidate is found indulging in any of the
following, he/she shall be deemed to have used unfair means at the
examinations and as such his/her result shall not be declared but shall be
marked as UNFAIR MEANS and debarred from taking this examination
permanently in future:
- Having in possession papers, books, notes, electronic devices or any other
material or information relevant to the examination in the paper concerned;
- Giving or receiving assistance directly or indirectly of any kind or attempting to
do so;
- Writing questions on the envelope of the hall ticket/answer on any material
other than the answer book given by the Centre Superintendent for writing
answers;
- Tearing of any page of the question paper, answer book, etc.;
- Contacting or communicating or trying to do so with any person, other than
the Examination Staff, during the examination time in the examination centre;
- Taking away the answer sheet/answer book out of the examination hall/room;
- Smuggling out Question Paper or its part or smuggling out answer
books/answer sheet or part thereof;
- Threatening any of the officials connected with the conduct of the
examinations or threatening any of the candidates;
- Using or attempting to use any other undesirable method or means in
connection with the examination.
(b) Candidates should ensure before leaving the Examination Hall that they have
handed over the Answer Sheet/Question Book to the invigilators on duty. In
case, the candidate does not hand over the Answer Sheet/Question Book and
takes away the same with him/her, this shall amount to use of unfair means
practices and accordingly his/her case shall be dealt with.
(c) Use of unfair means / impersonation will lead to summary cancellation of
selection / admission.
(xvi) The examination shall be conducted in ENGLISH medium only.
(xvii) The candidates are required to check whether the question booklet is complete with
all pages and no question is missing or wrongly numbered. In case of any defect by
the candidate, it should be immediately brought to the attention of the invigilator for
rectification before entering the Roll Number in the Answer Sheet.
THE ANSWER SHEET:
(i) The candidates are required to enter correctly the Roll Number in the Answer Sheet.
(ii) The Answer Sheet used will be of special type which will be scanned by an optical
scanner.
(iii) Part of the Answer Sheet contains columns, which are to be filled in neatly and
accurately by the candidate with ball-point pen only. Use of pencil on OMR sheet is 13
not permitted. OMR sheet filled-in with pencil would be summarily rejected for
evaluation.
Important Instructions for Marking the Answer Sheet:
(i) Use only the Ball-Point Pen provided in the hall to darken the appropriate circle.
Answers marked with pencil will not be evaluated.
(ii) Marking should be dark enough to fill the circle completely.
(iii) Darken only one circle for each entry as the Answer once marked is not liable to be
changed.
(iv) A lightly or faintly darkened circle will be treated as a wrong method of marking and
will be rejected by the Optical Scanner.
(v) Make the marks only in the space provided.
(vi) Please do not fold the Answer Sheet and do not make any stray marks on it.
Changing an Answer is Not Allowed:
Candidates must fully satisfy themselves about the accuracy of the answer before darkening
the appropriate circle as no change in answer once marked is possible.

If more than one circle is darkened or if the response is marked in any manner as
shown above shall be treated as wrong way of marking.
Rough Work:
The candidate will not do any rough work or writing work on the Answer Sheet. All rough
work is to be done in the Test Booklet itself.
Legal Jurisdiction:
(i) All disputes pertaining to the conduct of examination and allotment of seats and
impersonation if any detected shall fall within the jurisdiction of Puducherry only.
(ii) If any person(s) or invigilator(s) engaged in the conduct of JIPMER Entrance
Examination is found acting in a manner that would result in the leakage of the
question paper(s) or attempt to use or help in the use of unfair means in this
examination, he/she shall be liable to prosecution under the Indian Penal Code.
(iii) The disputes, if any with regard to counseling and admission process after the
Entrance Examination, etc. will be subject to the legal Jurisdiction of the Union
Territory of Puducherry.

LIST OF ORIGINAL CERTIFICATES TO BE PRODUCED:
The following original certificates should be submitted by the selected candidates at the
time of joining along with attested copies.
(a) Pass Certificate Mark Statement of the qualifying examination.
(b) Age Certificate showing the date of birth (Birth Certificate or X Std. Certificate).
(c) Experience Certificate.
(d) Character and Conduct Certificate from the Head of the Institute last studied.
(e) Residence Certificate issued by Revenue Authority not below the rank of Tahsildar.
(f) In case of OBC/Scheduled Caste/Schedule Tribe, a Community Certificate recently
obtained from the competent authority – a Revenue Officer not below the rank of
Tahsildar.
(g) Transfer Certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied.
(h) Medical Certificate in case of OPH Candidate.
(i) Four Passport size colour photographs identical with the photograph uploaded in the
application.
(j) Original Hall ticket of the Entrance Examination issued by JIPMER.
(k) Offer of Admission from Dean, JIPMER.
Please mention the Application Number behind the attested copy of the Disability
Certificate.
If any of the original certificates mentioned above, have been issued in a language
other than English, their English Translation, duly attested by a Gazetted Officer
should be produced.
HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION
1. Separate hostel accommodation is available for boys and girls. All students should
reside in the hostels except those who reside with their parents or approved
guardians.
2. Application for accommodation in the hostels should be in the prescribed form along
with the assurance by the parent or guardian for the good conduct and behavior of
the candidate during his/her stay in the hostel. Admission to hostel will be made by
the Warden on approval by the Director.
3. Each student resident in the hostel has to pay a caution deposit of ` 5,000/- which will
be refunded after making deductions, if any, at the time the students leaves the
hostel.
4. Mess is run by the students themselves on dividing system. A deposit of ` 3,000/- has
to be paid in cash to the Warden of the hostel towards boarding charges and `
6,000/- per year towards establishment charges. 15

Every effort is made by JIPMER to communicate in time to the candidate regarding
the examination, merit rank, counseling, etc. through website. In case the candidate

In the matter of selection / admission, the decision of the Director of JIPMER will be

All students admitted to the Courses at JIPMER shall maintain good conduct, pay the

regularly and abide by rules and regulations of the Institute. When the conduct and
character of a student is not satisfactory or of suspicious nature, the Director
reserves the right to make him/her vacate the hostel or to expel him/her from the
Institute.

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research,
Puducherry (JIPMER) under Government of India since the year 1956, is one of
the leading Medical Institutions of India. Spread over a sprawling 195 acre
campus in an urban locale of Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry) JIPMER is
170kms. by road from Chennai.
JIPMER was declared as an Institution of National Importance by a
Parliamentary Act, i.e. JIPMER, Puducherry, Act, 2008. A copy of the Act was
Gazette notified on 14-7-2008 to enforce this Act. Prior to this the Institute was
functioning under the administrative control of Directorate General of Health
Service, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi.
The Institution is now empowered to award Medical Degrees, Diplomas, etc.,
under the clauses 23 & 24 of the said Act. Such Degrees / Diploma, etc., shall be
deemed to be included in the schedules to the respective Acts governing
Medical Council of India, Indian Nursing Council and Dental Council of India,
entitling the holders to the same privileges as those attached to the equivalent
awards from the recognized Universities of India.
Admission to all Professional Courses at JIPMER is through an Entrance
Examination conducted by JIPMER at various centers in India once a year. In
addition certain categories of students are admitted through nominations by the
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
JIPMER imparts Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG) and Super Specialty
Medical Training through a working hospital (JIPMER Hospital) with a bed
strength of 2559 and a Nursing College. B.Sc.(Nursing) with 75 seats,
M.Sc.(Nursing) with 25 seats in 5 Disciplines Child Health Nursing, Community
Health Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Mental Health Nursing & Obstetrics &
Gynaecology Nursing are offered. M.B.B.S., B.Sc., M.Sc., M.D., M.S, Degree
Courses are also offered in 37 various disciplines. Super Specialty departments
of Cardiology, Neurology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology,
Plastic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Neonatology, Clinical Immunology, Clinical
Pharmacology, Clinical Hematology, Nephrology, Medical Oncology,
Endocrinology, Surgical Oncology and Surgical Gastroenterology also offer D.M.
/ M.Ch. Courses. Full-time Ph.D. Programs are available in eight disciplines as on
date.

Duration of the course: 1 year Medium of Instruction: English
Objectives of the Course: At the end of the course, the students will be able to develop an
understanding of philosophy, principles and standards of nursing care in the respective
specialty area. The Course is designed to prepare registered nurses with specialized
knowledge, skills and attitude in providing advance quality care to patients in the respective
specialty area. Furthermore, this course will enable them to develop skills and attitude in
providing competent nursing care in the respective specialty area.

outcome of various cases pending in courts and periodic directives from the

Eligibility:
Must be a registered nurse (R.N. & R.M.) or equivalent.
Possess Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery with one year experience as
Staff Nurse or B.Sc.Nursing or equivalent.
The prescribed experience will be calculated only after obtaining the license from
the state nursing council.
Age limit – 40 years and relaxable for SC/ST/OBC/Service candidates as per
Government rules.
STIPEND:
Rs.10, 000/- would be paid as stipend every month during the course of one year
study period with free Hostel accommodation.
Stipend will not be paid for the extension period, for the reasons like detention due to
ineligible internal marks and/or attendance, medical reasons etc.
DURATION TO COMPLETE THE COURSE:
The maximum period to complete the course successfully should not exceed two
years.
DISCONTINUATION OF THE COURSE:
If in case a candidate discontinues the course with 24 hours notice, a penalty of
Rs.25,000/- along with the one month stipend of Rs.10,000/- need to be paid to the
institute for getting relieved.
If the candidate discontinues the course with one month notice, a penalty of
Rs.25,000/- alone, has to be paid to the institute for getting relieved.
Method of selection:
(i) The Entrance Examination is a paper based test administration. The Entrance
Examination will be conducted in English medium only. The syllabus for the
entrance examination will be Nursing curriculum and will have 100 Multiple
Choice Questions (MCQ) of single best response type. The duration of the test is
one and half hours.
(ii) Each answer with correct response will be given four marks and one mark shall
be deducted for incorrect response. More than one answer indicated against the
question will be deemed as incorrect response. 7
(iii) In case of equal marks the candidates, scoring less negative marks shall be
ranked higher. In case of continued tie, the candidate senior in age shall rank
higher to a candidate who is junior in age. If there is still a tie, lots will be drawn.
(iv) The Merit list will be drawn Category-wise. Allotment of seats will be done
through counseling as per the Roster Point Reservation (refer Appendix I). The
results will be displayed in the Notice Board and in the website
www.jipmer.edu.in there will be no individual communication.
(v) Break of study will not be granted under any circumstances including
medical grounds. Students can leave the course mid-way only by
discontinuing the course.
General Conditions on Selection:
(i) The Entrance Examination is a paper based test administration and will have 100

(ii) All Unreserved (UR) candidates securing less than 50% marks and OBC /
Scheduled Caste / Tribe candidates securing less than 40% marks in the Entrance
Examination will not be considered for admission of JIPMER and their names will
not be included in the merit list.
(iii) If eligible OPH/OBC / SC / ST candidates are not available the seats remaining
unfilled shall be filled by eligible candidates from Unreserved Category.
(iv) There is no provision for sponsored / nominated candidates.
(v) Results as well as dates for counseling and the list of candidates called for
counseling shall be displayed in Notice Board of Academic Section JIPMER and in
JIPMER website www.jipmer.edu.in only.
(vi) Any information on the schedule of examination, roll numbers and venues of
examination, merit list, counseling information will be published in the JIPMER
website. Candidates in their own interest are advised to browse the website
www.jipmer.edu.in for updated information.
(vii) Proportional allocation of seats and interval fixing at the time of counseling will be
based on Model Roster of Reservation (Vide Appendix I) and share of entitlement.
Representation of each of the reserved category shall at no point of time exceed
the reservation prescribed for it.
Fees once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances.

DEFINITION OF CATEGORIES:
UR – Unreserved stands for all applicants including OCI (Overseas Citizen of India).
Institute (INST) – Institute category stands for an applicant who has studied and obtained
his / her B.Sc.Nursing Degree from JIPMER. The word Institute is not applicable to any
other Medical Institution for the purpose of category.
Other Backward Classes (OBC) - Applies to candidates whose sub-caste is notified in the
Central List of OBC. OBC candidates claiming reservation of seat should not belong to
Creamy Layer. OBC Certificate must be in the format as mentioned in the Appendix. The
certificate must be issued by the Competent Revenue Authority (vide Appendix II).
OBC candidates claiming reservation of seat should not belong to Creamy Layer.
The last three year’s Income Tax Returns of their parents ending 31.03.2013 as proof
of Non-Creamy Layer status should be produced at the time of counseling along with
the original OBC Certificate to verify the claim of a seat under this category by the
Applicant.
Income certificate from competent Revenue Authority can be produced in case the
parents are not filing any income tax.
Wherever the parents are employed in Government / Public Sector Enterprises, a
recent certificate from their employer indicating their Designation and Class / Group
has also to be submitted for their claim of seat under OBC category (Vide Appendix -
III).
Scheduled Caste / Tribe (SC / ST) - The seats are reserved for the candidates belonging
to Scheduled Castes (SC) / Scheduled Tribes (ST) as per Government Instructions,
provided candidates fulfill the minimum admission requirements prescribed by the Institute
for the purpose. The candidate belonging to Scheduled Castes / Tribes are required to
furnish certificate from the District Magistrate / Additional District Magistrate / Collector / 1st
Class Stipendiary Magistrate / Sub Divisional Magistrate, Taluka Magistrate / Executive
Magistrate / Extra Assistant Chief Presidency Magistrate / Presidency Magistrate, Revenue
Officer not below the rank of Tahsildar, Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the
candidate and / or his family normally resides, Administrator / Secretary to Administrator /
Development Officer (Lakshadweep islands) in support of their claims (vide Appendix III). If
the certificates are not in English an English translation of their caste certificate duly attested
by a Gazetted Officer should also be produced.

OPH – Orthopedic Physically Challenged – the term is applicable to persons with
locomotory disability confined only to lower limbs between 50% to 70% who would be
allowed the benefit of reservation under the Disability Act for admission in the medicine
courses.
3% reservations for orthopedic physically challenged shall be provided on horizontal basis, in
the seats available as per their rank in the merit. If requisite numbers of qualified candidates
are not available to fill up the seats reserved for the category OPH / OBC / SC / ST, the
same shall be filled from out of the candidates belonging to the UR.
a) Other Criteria for Orthopedic Physically Challenged: The candidate must possess
a valid document certifying his / her physical disability conforming to judgment of
Supreme Court of India directive
i. Reservation in admission to the course in the first instance is provided to
candidates with disability of lower limbs between 50% to 70% and in
case eligible candidates are not available, then the candidates with
disability of lower limbs between 40% to 50% will be considered for
admission.
ii. Candidates suffering less than 40% disability are not eligible for the
benefit of reservation under OPH category.
iii. The disability certificate should be produced by a duly constituted and
authorized Medical Board of the State or Central Govt. Hospitals /
Institutions.

Candidate should download a Copy of the Application and send the same along with the
Demand Draft to The Registrar (Academic) JIPMER so as to reach on or before the last
date for online registration.

FILLING UP THE FORM:
(i) The candidate, before filling-in the form, shall satisfy his/her eligibility to appear in
the examination.
(ii) It will be the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that he/she fills-in his/her
correct address in the application form.
PHOTOGRAPH:
The Photograph must be snapped with a placard while the placard is being held by the
candidate indicating name of candidate and date of taking photograph. In case name and
date are written on the photograph after taking it, the application will be rejected. The name
and date on the photograph should be legible.
ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
HALL TICKET:
(1) The Hall Ticket will bear the photograph, date & time of Entrance Examination and
Candidate’s Details – Name, Date of Birth, Roll No., and the address of the Candidate.
(2) Candidates are advised to preserve their Hall Ticket, which is mandatory for

INSTRUCTIONS TO BE FOLLOWED IN THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION:
(i) Candidate taking the Entrance Examination will be subjected to thorough frisking
before being allowed into the hall at the stipulated time.
(ii) The candidate must show, on demand, the Hall Ticket for admission in the
Examination Hall. A candidate who does not possess the Hall Ticket issued by
JIPMER shall not be admitted to the Examination Hall under any circumstances by
the Centre Superintendent.
(iii) During the examination time, the invigilator will check Hall Ticket of the candidates to
satisfy himself/herself about the identity of each candidate.
(iv) A seat with a roll number will be allotted to each candidate. Candidates must find out
and occupy their allotted seats. If a candidate is found appearing in the Examination
from a seat or room other than the one allotted to him/her, his/her candidature shall
be cancelled.
(v) A candidate who comes 30 minutes after the commencement of the
examination shall not be permitted to sit in the examination.
(vi) Candidates are not allowed to carry any textual material, printed or written, bits of
paper and any other material except the Hall Ticket inside the Examination Hall.
(vii) Pens, Calculator, Slide Rules, Log Table, Geometry Box, Electronic Digital Watches
with facilities of calculators, cellular Phones, pagers or any other electronic gadget
are not allowed inside the Examination Hall.
(viii) No candidate, without the special permission of the Centre Superintendent or the
Invigilator concerned, will leave his/her seat or the Examination Room until the final
bell is rung. Candidates should not leave the Hall without handing over their Answer
Sheets to the invigilator on duty.
(ix) BALL-POINT PEN WILL BE PROVIDED IN THE HALL BY THE INVIGILATOR.
Do not bring your pen to the Examination Hall.
(x) Tea, Coffee, cold drinks or snacks are not allowed to be taken by the candidates into
the Examination Hall during examination hours.
(xi) The Test will start exactly at the time mentioned in the Hall Ticket and an
announcement to this effect will be made by the invigilator.
(xii) A bell will be rung at the beginning of the examination and at the closing time. The
candidate must stop marking the responses/writing the answer.
(xiii) The candidate must sign in the Attendance Sheet at the appropriate place and affix
the left index finger impression against the appropriate column of the Attendance
Sheet. Failure to comply with this requirement will lead to the annulling of his/her
candidature without any prior intimation.
(xiv) For those who are unable to appear on the scheduled date of examination for any
reason, re-examination shall not be held by JIPMER under any circumstances.

(xv) UNFAIR MEANS:
(a) If during the course of examination, a candidate is found indulging in any of the
following, he/she shall be deemed to have used unfair means at the
examinations and as such his/her result shall not be declared but shall be
marked as UNFAIR MEANS and debarred from taking this examination
permanently in future:
- Having in possession papers, books, notes, electronic devices or any other
material or information relevant to the examination in the paper concerned;
- Giving or receiving assistance directly or indirectly of any kind or attempting to
do so;
- Writing questions on the envelope of the hall ticket/answer on any material
other than the answer book given by the Centre Superintendent for writing
answers;
- Tearing of any page of the question paper, answer book, etc.;
- Contacting or communicating or trying to do so with any person, other than
the Examination Staff, during the examination time in the examination centre;
- Taking away the answer sheet/answer book out of the examination hall/room;
- Smuggling out Question Paper or its part or smuggling out answer
books/answer sheet or part thereof;
- Threatening any of the officials connected with the conduct of the
examinations or threatening any of the candidates;
- Using or attempting to use any other undesirable method or means in
connection with the examination.
(b) Candidates should ensure before leaving the Examination Hall that they have
handed over the Answer Sheet/Question Book to the invigilators on duty. In
case, the candidate does not hand over the Answer Sheet/Question Book and
takes away the same with him/her, this shall amount to use of unfair means
practices and accordingly his/her case shall be dealt with.
(c) Use of unfair means / impersonation will lead to summary cancellation of
selection / admission.
(xvi) The examination shall be conducted in ENGLISH medium only.
(xvii) The candidates are required to check whether the question booklet is complete with
all pages and no question is missing or wrongly numbered. In case of any defect by
the candidate, it should be immediately brought to the attention of the invigilator for
rectification before entering the Roll Number in the Answer Sheet.
THE ANSWER SHEET:
(i) The candidates are required to enter correctly the Roll Number in the Answer Sheet.
(ii) The Answer Sheet used will be of special type which will be scanned by an optical
scanner.
(iii) Part of the Answer Sheet contains columns, which are to be filled in neatly and
accurately by the candidate with ball-point pen only. Use of pencil on OMR sheet is 13
not permitted. OMR sheet filled-in with pencil would be summarily rejected for
evaluation.
Important Instructions for Marking the Answer Sheet:
(i) Use only the Ball-Point Pen provided in the hall to darken the appropriate circle.
Answers marked with pencil will not be evaluated.
(ii) Marking should be dark enough to fill the circle completely.
(iii) Darken only one circle for each entry as the Answer once marked is not liable to be
changed.
(iv) A lightly or faintly darkened circle will be treated as a wrong method of marking and
will be rejected by the Optical Scanner.
(v) Make the marks only in the space provided.
(vi) Please do not fold the Answer Sheet and do not make any stray marks on it.
Changing an Answer is Not Allowed:
Candidates must fully satisfy themselves about the accuracy of the answer before darkening
the appropriate circle as no change in answer once marked is possible.

If more than one circle is darkened or if the response is marked in any manner as
shown above shall be treated as wrong way of marking.
Rough Work:
The candidate will not do any rough work or writing work on the Answer Sheet. All rough
work is to be done in the Test Booklet itself.
Legal Jurisdiction:
(i) All disputes pertaining to the conduct of examination and allotment of seats and
impersonation if any detected shall fall within the jurisdiction of Puducherry only.
(ii) If any person(s) or invigilator(s) engaged in the conduct of JIPMER Entrance
Examination is found acting in a manner that would result in the leakage of the
question paper(s) or attempt to use or help in the use of unfair means in this
examination, he/she shall be liable to prosecution under the Indian Penal Code.
(iii) The disputes, if any with regard to counseling and admission process after the
Entrance Examination, etc. will be subject to the legal Jurisdiction of the Union
Territory of Puducherry.

LIST OF ORIGINAL CERTIFICATES TO BE PRODUCED:
The following original certificates should be submitted by the selected candidates at the
time of joining along with attested copies.
(a) Pass Certificate Mark Statement of the qualifying examination.
(b) Age Certificate showing the date of birth (Birth Certificate or X Std. Certificate).
(c) Experience Certificate.
(d) Character and Conduct Certificate from the Head of the Institute last studied.
(e) Residence Certificate issued by Revenue Authority not below the rank of Tahsildar.
(f) In case of OBC/Scheduled Caste/Schedule Tribe, a Community Certificate recently
obtained from the competent authority – a Revenue Officer not below the rank of
Tahsildar.
(g) Transfer Certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied.
(h) Medical Certificate in case of OPH Candidate.
(i) Four Passport size colour photographs identical with the photograph uploaded in the
application.
(j) Original Hall ticket of the Entrance Examination issued by JIPMER.
(k) Offer of Admission from Dean, JIPMER.
Please mention the Application Number behind the attested copy of the Disability
Certificate.
If any of the original certificates mentioned above, have been issued in a language
other than English, their English Translation, duly attested by a Gazetted Officer
should be produced.
HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION
1. Separate hostel accommodation is available for boys and girls. All students should
reside in the hostels except those who reside with their parents or approved
guardians.
2. Application for accommodation in the hostels should be in the prescribed form along
with the assurance by the parent or guardian for the good conduct and behavior of
the candidate during his/her stay in the hostel. Admission to hostel will be made by
the Warden on approval by the Director.
3. Each student resident in the hostel has to pay a caution deposit of ` 5,000/- which will
be refunded after making deductions, if any, at the time the students leaves the
hostel.
4. Mess is run by the students themselves on dividing system. A deposit of ` 3,000/- has
to be paid in cash to the Warden of the hostel towards boarding charges and `
6,000/- per year towards establishment charges. 15

All students are required to appear for JIPMER Entrance Exam / interview at their
own cost.
The final decision regarding Admission rests with the Director and the jurisdiction for
any disputes will be Puducherry.
Any attempt on the part of the candidate to influence directly or indirectly the
admission procedures will be viewed seriously and lead to disqualification of the
application.
Every effort is made by JIPMER to communicate in time to the candidate regarding
the examination, merit rank, counseling, etc. through website. In case the candidate
does not notice the information, JIPMER shall not be held responsible for the same. 16
No individual intimation will be sent to candidates NOT selected and no
correspondence on this subject will be entertained.
In the matter of selection / admission, the decision of the Director of JIPMER will be
final.
All students admitted to the Courses at JIPMER shall maintain good conduct, pay the
requisite tuition fees and other charges by due dates, attend their classes / clinics
regularly and abide by rules and regulations of the Institute. When the conduct and
character of a student is not satisfactory or of suspicious nature, the Director
reserves the right to make him/her vacate the hostel or to expel him/her from the
Institute.
Ragging in any form is forbidden. If anyone is found or reported to be
indulging in ragging, he / she can be rusticated from the Institute.
