Note:(Relaxable by 5 years for Government Servant as per Central Government Rules)
Relaxable by five years in case of post reserved for SC /ST candidates and three years for
the post reserved for OBC candidate as per rules of the Govt. of India.
The number of vacancies are subject to vary.
PROFESSOR:
Scale of Pay PB-4: 37400-67000 + GP 10,500/-(Academic Grade Pay) with a
minimum of Rs.51,600/- + NPA.
In case suitable candidates with required experience are not available for the post of
Professor the same may be operated at the level of Additional Professor in the pay scale
PB-4: Rs.37400-67000 + G.P. 9500/- (Academic Grade Pay) with a minimum of
Rs.46,000/- + NPA. Those who would like to be considered for Additional Professor may
please indicate the same in their application.
Age Limit: Not exceeding 58 years as on closing date.
Essential Qualifications for Super Specialty posts
I (a) PROFESSOR:
i. A Medical qualification included in the I or II Schedule or Part II of the third
Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act of 1956 (persons possessing
qualifications included in part II or third schedule should also fulfill the
conditions specified in Section13 (3) of the Act.)
ii. A Postgraduate qualification, e.g. MD or MS or a recognized qualification
equivalent thereto in the respective discipline or subject; and/or
iii. D.M. in respective discipline or subject for Medical super-specialties and M.Ch. in
respective discipline or subject for surgical super-specialties (two years or three
years or five years recognized course) or a qualification recognized equivalent
thereto.
Experience:
Twelve years teaching and, or research experience in a recognized institution in the
subject of specialty after obtaining the qualifying degree of M.Ch. or D.M.(two years or five
years course recognized after MBBS) in the respective discipline or subject or a qualification
recognized equivalent thereto.4
(OR)
Eleven years teaching and, or research experience in a recognized institution in the
subject of specialty for the candidates possessing three years recognized degree of D.M. or
M.Ch. in the respective discipline or subject or a qualification recognized equivalent thereto.
(b) ADDITIONAL PROFESSOR:
Essential qualifications are same as for Professor.
Experience:
Eight years teaching and, or research experience in a recognized institution in the
subject of specialty after obtaining the qualifying degree of D.M. or M.Ch.(two years or five
years recognized course after MBBS) in the respective discipline or subject or a qualification
recognized equivalent thereto.
(OR)
Seven years teaching and, or research experience in a recognized institution in the
subject of specialty for the candidates possessing three years recognized degree of D.M. or
M.Ch. in the respective discipline or subject or a qualification recognized equivalent thereto.
Essential Qualifications for Broad Specialty posts:
II. (a) PROFESSOR:
i. A Medical qualification included in the I or II Schedule or Part II of the third

Experience:
Fourteen years teaching and/or research experience in a recognized institution in the
subject of specialty after obtaining the qualifying degree of M.D or M.S. or qualification
recognized equivalent thereto.
(b) ADDITIONAL PROFESSOR:
Essential qualifications are same as for Professor. 5
Experience:
Ten years teaching and, or research experience in a recognized institution in the
subject of specialty after obtaining the qualifying degree of MD of MS or a qualification
recognized equivalent thereto.
(c) ASSISTANT PROFESSOR :
Scale of Pay PB-3: Rs.15600-39100 + GP 8000/- (Academic Grade Pay)
with a minimum of Rs.30,000/- + NPA.
Age Limit: Not exceeding 50 years as on closing date.
(i) ESSENTIAL FOR SUPERSPECIALITY DISCIPLINES:
i. Same as Professor (Medical)
ii. D.M. in the respective discipline or subject for medical Super-specialties and
M.Ch. in the respective discipline or subject for surgical super-specialties (two
years or three years or five years recognized course) or a qualification
recognized equivalent thereto.
EXPERIENCE:
One year teaching and, or research experience in a recognized institution in the
subject of specialty after obtaining the qualifying degree of D.M. or M.Ch. (two years or
five years recognized course after MBBS) or a qualifying recognized equivalent thereto.
However, no experience is necessary for the candidates possessing the three years
recognized degree of D.M. or M.Ch. or qualification recognized equivalent thereto.
(ii) ESSENTIAL FOR BROAD SPECIALITY POSTS:
Essential qualifications are same as for Professor (Medical)
EXPERIENCE:
Three years teaching and, or research experience in a recognized Institution in the
subject of specialty after obtaining the qualifying degree of M.D or M.S. or a qualification
recognized equivalent thereto.6
III. FOR NON-MEDICAL CANDIDATES:
(a) Professor :
Essential:
1. Postgraduate qualification, e.g. Masters Degree in the discipline or allied subject.
2. A doctorate degree of a recognized University.
Experience: Fourteen years teaching and, or research experience in
the discipline or subject concerned after obtaining the doctorate
degree.
Scale of Pay: PB-4: 37400-67000 + GP 10,500/-(Academic Grade Pay)
with a minimum basic pay of Rs.51,600/-.
(b) Additional Professor:
Essential qualifications are same as for Professor.
Experience: Ten years teaching and, or research experience in the discipline
or subject concerned after obtaining the doctorate degree.
Scale of Pay: PB-4: Rs.37400-67000 + G.P. 9500/- (Academic Grade Pay)
with a minimum basic pay of Rs.46,000/-.
(c) Assistant Professor:
Essential qualifications are same as for Professor.
Experience: Three years teaching and, or research experience in the discipline
or subject concerned after obtaining the doctorate degree.
Scale of Pay: PB-3: Rs.15600-39100 + GP 8000/- (Academic Grade Pay)
with a minimum basic pay of Rs.30,000/-.
MODE OF SELECTION: Personal interview.7
GENERAL CONDITIONS:
1. The crucial date for Age limit and experience will be the last date of receipt of
application i.e. 05th SEP 2013.
2. The candidates who are in Central / State Govt. / Autonomous Institutions /
University etc. under State/ Central are eligible for consideration for appointment on
deputation basis for the post of Professors only. The period of deputation shall
ordinarily be not exceeding five years subject to the approval of Ministry.
3. All future vacancies up to a period of 1 year arising out of resignation etc.,
will be filled up from the merit list drawn based on the recommendation of
Standing Selection Committee to be held against this advertisement
4. Applicants already employed in Central/State Govt./Autonomous Institutions /
Statutory Organizations/ PSUs under Central/ State Govt. should route their
applications through proper channel.
5. Application for the post shall be on the prescribed proforma available in the JIPMER
website (www.jipmer.edu.in). It shall be accompanied by certified copies of
educational qualification and experience, Certificate of date of Birth and other
documents, duly attested.
6. The Institute reserves the right to decide the number of posts to be filled up.
7. Application incomplete in any respect or received after due date i.e. 05th SEP 2013
or without application fee will be summarily rejected. The Institute will not be
responsible for any postal delays and no correspondence in this regard will be
entertained.
8. Selection for the posts of Professor & Assistant Professor will be held by
conducting an interview which is likely to be held in the Third/ last week of
September 2013, for which date and time will be intimated to the eligible
candidates by email only, the same will be published in the JIPMER website
(www.jipmer.edu.in). No communication would be sent by post.8
9. TA (second class Railway Fare) will be paid to SC/ST candidates only.
10. A Demand Draft in favour of the Accounts Officer, JIPMER, Puducherry payable at
State Bank of India, JIPMER Branch, Puducherry-605006, towards the examination
fee (non-refundable fee), Rs.500/ for General & OBC category & Rs.250/ for SC/ST
category) should be attached with application downloaded from the website. The
duly filled in application form, with all necessary enclosures should reach the Office
of the Director, Danvanthri Nagar Post, JIPMER, Puducherry – 605 006 on or
before 05th SEP 2013.
11. A soft copy of the application including the “Brief of the Candidate” in a CD should
also be submitted along with the application (for Professor & Assistant Professor
only).
Note: 1. Postgraduate degree i.e. MD/MS/DM/M.Ch possessed by the candidate must be
recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
Note: 2
a) The candidates applied for the post of Professor may also specify whether they are
ready to be considered for the post of Additional Professor in case if it is decided to
operate the post at the level of Additional Professor.
b) Persons who are eligible for consideration for appointment for the post of Additional
Professor only, may submit their application in the prescribed form downloaded
from the website along with all the necessary documents with clear superscription on
the envelop that the application is for the post of Addl. Professor by 05th SEP 2013.9
c) While forwarding the application through proper channel the following
documents may also be sent to this Institute along with the application.
i. A certificate to the effect that State Government / Union Territory or the
parent Department/Organizations has “No Objection” to the appointment of
officer concerned.
ii. Complete attested copies of ACR dossier of the applicant for the last five
years.
iii. A certificate about the Integrity of the Officer recommended for appointment
on Deputation.
iv. Vigilance Clearance in respect of applicant duly signed by an officer of the
appropriate Status.
v. Certificate, Major/Minor penalty imposed if any on the officer during the last
10 years/service period whichever is less.
