1. Applications are invited from Married/Unmarried male and Unmarried female,as
also from widows of Defence Personnel for grant of Short Service Commission in the
Indian Army. Minimum educational qualifications, vacancies and age are as given

(ii) SSC (Tech)-13Women - 20 to 27 years. Born not earlier than 02 Apr 87 and not
latter than 01 Apr 94.
(iii) For Widows of Defence Personnel with four years age relaxation.
(a) For SSCW (Non-Tech) - 19 to 29 years. Born not earlier than 02 Jan 85 and not
latter than 01 Jan 95.
(b) For SSCW (Tech) - 20 to 31 years. Born not earlier than 02 Apr 83 and not latter
than 01 Apr 94.
IMPORTANT NOTE : A candidate is permitted to apply only for one entry/discipline of
above course. Change of entry / qualification choice will not be entertained. Candidates
are advised to submit only one application. Forwarding of double application will
result in outright rejection of application and candidature of such candidates will be
cancelled.
(c) Widows of Defence Personnel, including those with childeren who have died in
harness, will be eligible to apply for SSCW (Tech) and SSCW (Non Tech). They will be
eligible only if they have not remarried. The unfilled vacancies will revert to the
category other than that of widows. Upper age limit will be relaxable upto four years
in respect of such candidates. The following documents are to be attached with the
application. (i) Initial Report of Battle Casualty, (ii) Detailed report of Battle Casualty,
(iii) Battle Casualty certificate (iv) Part-II Order of demise husband (v) Part-II Order of
NOK. The envelop containing the application should be superscribed in Red ink
indicating clearly the name of the officer with rank. For example, Widow of late .......,
Candidates will apply OFF LINE directly to Integrated HQ of Min of Defence (Army),
AG’s Branch, DG Rtg/ Rtg - 6 (WE) Section, West Block - III, RK Puram, New Delhi
- 110066 in the application format given in Army website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in
provided they possess the laid down educational qualification and selection criteria.
The last date of reciept of application is 30 Aug 2013. Applications receipt after
last date will not be entertained.
(d) EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION: For Engineers (Men and Women). Candidates
studying in the Final Year of Engineering Degree and who are qualified graduates of
the Degree Course in Engineering will be eligible to apply. The qualified graduates of
the Degree Course must possess Engineering Degree at the time of joining training.
The candidates studying in the final year of Degree Course, if not already in possession
of the Degree Certificate should be able to produce the Engineering Degree within 12
weeks from the date of commencement of training at OTA. Such candidates will be
inducted for training at OTA on Additional Bond Basis for recovery of the cost of
training as notified from time to time as well as stipend and pay & allowances paid, in
case they fail to produce the requisite degree certificate.
Important Note :- Candidates must note that the minimum educational qualification
for induction into SSC(Tech)-42course and SSCW (Tech)- 13 course is BE/B.Tech
degree in the engineering stream notified in Para (1)(a) above. Therefore, to become
eligible for induction into SSC(Tech)-42Men course and SSCW (Tech)- 13 Women
course, candidates studying in final year of engineering must complete all the formlities
including viva voc e etc for award of qualifying BE/B.Tech degree before
commencement of course, failing which their candidature is liable to be cancelled.
2. CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY
(a) NATIONALITY: A candidate must either be (i) a citizen of India or (ii) a subject
of Nepal or (iii) a subject of Bhutan or (iv) Tibetan origin but of Indian domicile,
whose parents entered India as refugees prior to 1st January 1962 with intention
of permanently settling in India. (v) a person of Indian origin who migrated from
Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and East African countries like Kenya, Uganda,
United Republic of Tanzania, Zambi, Malawai, Zaire, Ethopia and Vietnam with
the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging
to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a
certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Certificate of
eligibility will however not be necessary in the case of candidate who are Gorkhas
subject of Nepal.
(b) Candidates withdrawn from IMA/OTA/Naval Academy/Air Force Academy on
disciplinary ground are not eligible to apply.
(c) PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
(i) HEIGHT & WEIGHT: The minimum acceptable height and weight for men is
157.5 cms with correlated weight and for women candidate is 152 cm and 42 kg.
In case of candidates belonging to the North East and hilly areas like Gorkhas,
Nepalese, Assamese and Garhwalis, the height will be relaxed by 5 cms and weight
commensurate with reduced height. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep, the
minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2cms.
(ii) VISUAL STANDARDS: The minimum acceptable visual acuity are: Distant vision
(corrected) better eye 6/6, worse 6/18, Myopia of not more than minus 3.5 including
Astigmation. Candidates who have undergone or have evidence for having undergone
Radial Karatotomy to improve the visual acuity will be permanently rejected.
Candidates who have undergone Lasik Surgery for Correction of reflective error are
NOT acceptable.
(iii) PERMANENT BODY TATTOOS: Permanent body tattoos are only permitted
on inner face of forearm i.e, from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse
side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand. Permanent body tattoos on any other part
of the body are not acceptable and candidates will be barred from further selection.
Tribes with tattoos mark on the face or body as per their existing custom and
traditions will be permitted on a case to case basis.
(iv) To be passed fit, a candidate must be in good physical and mental health free
from any disability likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duty.
(v) Prospective candidates are advised to excercise and keep themselves physically
fit, in order to avoid any injury due to the rigorous physical training at OTA Chennai.
In order to be able to adjust to the regime the candidates are advised to achieve
following standards before joining the OTA, if finally selected:-
(a) Running 2.4 Km in 15 minutes. (b) Push up - 13 Nos. (c) Sit ups - 25 Nos.
(d) Chin ups- 6 Nos. (e) Rope climbing - 3-4 meter.
3. METHOD OF SELECTION:
(a) SHORTLISTING OF APPLICATIONS AND SSB INTERVIEWS: Army Headquarters
reserves the right to shorlist applications and to fix cutoff percentage of marks
without assigning any reason. Initial checking of applications will be done at
Directorate General Recruiting, Army Hqs. Only shorlisted eligible candidates
depending on aggregate percentage of marks scored will be called for and
assessed under aegis of Selection Centres, namely Allahabad (UP), Bhopal (MP)
and Bangalore (Karnataka) by Psychologist, Group Testing Officer and Interviewing
Officer. Candidates will not be interviewed locally. Allotment of Selection Centre
is at the discretion of Army Headquarters and no requests of changes are entertained
in this regard.
(b) TWO STAGE SELECTION PROCEDURE: Two stage selection procedure based
on Psychological Aptitude Test is held at Selection Centres. All the candidates will
face stage one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centres. The candidates
who qualify in stage one will be admitted to the second stage/remaining tests.
Those who fail to pass stage one will be returned on the same date.
(c) MERIT LIST: IT IS TO BE NOTED THAT MERE QUALIFYING AT THE SSB
INTERVIEW DOES NOT CONFIRM FINAL SELECTION. A MERIT LIST IS PREPARED
FOR EVERY QUALIFICATION SUBJECT SEPARATELY PURELY ON THE BASIS OF
MARKS OBTAINED BY THE CANDIDATES IN SSB INTERVIEW AND AS SUCH
HIGHER EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION, PREVIOUS PERFORMANCES, NCC
BACKGROUND ETC HAVE NO ROLE TO PLAY. THOSE HIGH IN THE MERIT LIST
AND WHO COME WITHIN THE STIPULATED VACANCIES AND ARE MEDICALLY
FIT ARE ISSUED JOINING INSTRUCTION FOR PRECOMMISSIONING TRAINING.
(d) The merit list of the recommended candidates will be displayed at the reception
of DG RTG and Indian Army Website i.e. www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.
4. MEDICAL EXAMINATION: A candidate recommended by the Service Selection
Board will undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers.
The proceedings of the Medical Board are confidential and will not be divulged
to anyone. However, candidates declared unfit by the Special Medical Board
(SMB) will be intimated by the president of the Special Medical Board (SMB) the
procedure for request for Appeal Medical Board (AMB). Unfit Candidates should
report for AMB within a maximum period of 42 days. Candidates are advised in
their own interest to appear for AMB well in time and should not wait for the last
date given by the SMB. Candidates are advised to note that Recruiting Directorate
has no role to play in Appeal Medical Boards and procedure advised by the
medical authorities is strictly to be adhered to. Candidates declared unfit by AMB
will be intimated by the President, AMB about procedure to challenge the finding
of AMB. Candidates will also be intimated that Review Medical Board (RMB) will
be granted at the discretion of DGAFMS based on the merits of the case and that
RMB is not a matter of right. Candidates will be considered medically fit only on
receipt of the approved Medical documents from Directorate General Medical
Services in Dte Gen Rtg. (b) Pregnancy, if detected at any stage, after selection
at SSB or during training will debar the candidate from grant of commission.
Note : Candidates are advised in their own interest to undergo a preliminary
medical check up for wax in ears, DNS, defective colour vision, over weight/under
weight, piles, gynaecomasties, tonsilitis and visicocle before reporting for the SSB
interview.
5. TRAINING AND PROPECTS : (a) Selected candiates will be detailed for training
at Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai according to their position in the final order
of merit, discipline wise upto the number of vacancies available at the time
(b) Duration of training - 49 weeks (c) Engineering Graduates will be granted Short
Service Commission (on probation) and will be entitled to draw full pay and
allowances admissible to Lt during training period. Pay and allowances will be
paid after successful completion of training. (d) Candidates will neither be allowed
to marry during the period of training nor will He/She be allowed to live with
parents/Guardians. Candidates must not marry until they complete the full training
at the Officers Training Academy. A candidate, who married subsequent to the date
of his/her application though successful at the Service Selection Board interview
or medical examination, will not be inducted for taining. A candidate if he/she
marries, while under training, shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all
expenditure incurred on him/her by the government. It is also applicable to widows
of Defence Personnel. (e) Training at OTA is at Govt. expense All candidates who
successfully complete Pre-Commission training at Officers Training Academy,
Chennai will be awarded “ Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management and
Strategic Studies” by University of Madras. (f) SSC (Tech) Engineering Graduate
will be confirmed in Short Service Commission with an ante date seniority of one
year from date of commission. (g) Widows of Defence personnel selected for SSC
(NT) entry will be granted Short Service Commission in the rank of Lt but will not
be entitled to any ante date seniority. (h) Ante Date Seniority. One year ante date
seniority from date of commission will be applicable for Men and Women officers
having Engineering Degree (BE/B.Tech) from a recognized institution/university.
6. The final allocation of Arms/ Services will be made prior to passing out of Lady/
Gentlemen Cadets from OTA and will be the sole discretion of Integrated HQ, Min
of Defence (Army) keeping in view the existing policy. No representation is tenable
on this account.
7. SUITABILITY TO RETAIN SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION: If an Officer is reported
upon within a period of six months from the date of confirmation of Short Service
Commission as unsuitable to retain his commission, his commission may be
terminated at any time, whether before or after the above period.
8. LIABILITY OF SERVICE: Officers may be granted Short Service Commission in
any arms/services and will be liable for service in any part of the world on selected
appointments as decided by Army Headquarters from time to time.
9. TENURE OF ENGAGEMENT: Short Service Commision to Officers (Male and
Female) in the regular Army will be granted for 14 years i.e. for an initial period
of 10 years extendable by a furhter period of 04 years. Male Officers who are
willing to continue to serve in the Army after the expiry of period of ten years in
Short Service Commission may, if eligible and suitable in all respects, be considered
for the grant of permanent commission in the 10th years of their Short Service
Commission in accordance with the relevant rules. Those SSC officers who are not
selected for grant of PC but are otherwise considered fit and suitable, will be given option
to continue as SSCOs for a total period of 14 years (including the initial tenure of 10 years)
on expiry of which they will be released from the Army. SSC (Tech) Women Officers are
not eligible for permanent commission. However, they can opt for extension of up to
14 years of service.

10. (a) Pay Scale The promotion from Lieutenant to Lieutenant Colonel is on time scale
basis and thereafter on selection basis subject to fulfilment of requisite service conditions.

NOTE: In the case of allowances specific to Defence Forces, the rates of these
allowance have been further enhanced by 25% as Dearnes allowance has gone
up by 50%.
11. COST TO COMPANY (CTC) The CTC for a Lieutenant would be approxmiately
Rs. 65000/- per month. This includes Basic Pay, DA, Grade Pay, Military Service
Pay, Tech Pay, House Rent Allowance and Transport Allowance. These rates are
not statutory and are subject to change.
12. PRIVILEGES. In addition to the CTC mentioned above, Army provides free
Medical facilities for Self & dependents, Canteen facilities, Entitled Ration, Mess/
Club/Sports facilities, Furnished Govt Accommodation, Car/Housing Loan at
subsidised rate.
13. GROUP INSURANCE AND GRATUITY. The Gentleman cadets of OTA in reciept
of stipend are insured for Rs. 40 lac w.e.f. 01 Apr 2011. Those who get medically
boarded out of Academy on account of disability, the disability cover provided for
100% disability will be Rs. 20 lac which is proportionately reduced upto Rs. 4 lac
for 20% disability. However, for less than 20% disability, only an ex gratia grant
of Rs. 50,000/- will be paid. Disability due to alcohalism, drug addiction and due
to the diseases of pre enrolment origin will not qualify for disability benefits and
ex gratia grant. In addition, Gentleman cadet withdrawn on disciplinary ground,
expelled as an undesirable or voluntarily leaving the Academy will also not be
eligible for disablity benefits and ex gratia. Subscription at the rate of
Rs. 4,000/- will have to be paid in advance on monthly basis by the Gentleman
cadets in receipt of stipend and will become members of the main Army Group
Insurance Scheme as applicable to regular Army Officers. Gratuity will be granted
to the officers as per the latest rules in force.
14. LEAVE ENTITLEMENTS. On commission, officers are entitles to 60 days annual
and 20 days casual leave every year (subject to service exigencies). They are
also entilted for 40% rail concession to any place and free travel (as per extant
rules) for self and family. Leave during training period will be as per the Training
Policy in force.
15. SPORTS & ADVENTURE. The Army provides facilities to pursue any sport of
your liking. In addition, one can learn and participate in adventure sports, such
as River Rafting, Mountaineering, Hot air balooning, Hand gliding, Horse Riding
etc.
16. PHYSICAL FITNESS. In OTA curriculam, a lot of emphasis is laid on Physical
Fitness. You are therefore, advised to remain fit through physical exercises, sports,
running, swimming, etc. so that you meet training goals successfully.
17. STIPENED / PAY DURING TRAINING: During the period of training the
candidates will be given stipened of Rs. 21000/- per month (Rs. 15600/- as pay
in Pay Band + Grade Pay 5400/-). On completion of training officers are
commissioned as Lt and entitled to the pay scale as given in para 10 above.
18. RESERVE LIABILITY: SSC Officer’s on release before or on expiry of contractual
length of service will carry reserve liability to serve Army for five years plus two years
on voluntary basis or upto the age of 37 years for women and 40 years for men
whichever is earlier.
19. HOW TO APPLY (Only online): Application will only be accepted online. To do so
the candidates needs to click on the “online application” button on website
www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.
(a) The online form is self explaintory please follow the instruction terms and
conditions given on the form.
(b) Filling up of online application : Visit website joinindianarmy.nic.in and proceed
as follows:-
(i) Click on Officers Menu button. Go to How to apply button and then click apply
online for the particular entry on the home page.
(ii) Fill the online registration form. Tips to assist in filling up fields have been
provided as you click on each field.
(iii) While filling online application it is advisable to keep the relevant documents
readily available as details are to be filled as per matriculation and other
educational certificates.
(iv) Before clicking the submit button it should be checked whether all details
entered in the form are correct as you will not be able to make any corrections
after saving the record.
(v) After submitting the form and acknowledgement of successful submission generated
roll number the buttons of print and save the application will appear. It is
advisable to first save the online application and then take a print out.
(vi) After submitting online application, candidates are required to obtain two copies
of the application printout. One copy of print out application duly signed and
affixed photogrph attested by Gazzetted Officer thereon and 10th Class certificate,
12th Class certificate, Degree/Provisional Degree and marksheets of eight
semesters of B.E/B.Tech, all in orginal alongwith two attested photocopies of
all the above certificates are to be carried out to the Selection Centre by the
candidate. Orginal will be returned after verification by the Selection Centre.
The second copy of the print out of online application is to be retained by the
candidate for his reference. No need to send any hard copy to DG Rtg / Rtg Dte.
(vii) Candidates must submit only one application. Receipt of multiple applications
from the same candidate will result in cancellation of candidature.
20. Any change in your postal address after submission of application must be
communicated by post duly quoting your Roll No., Name and course opted for.
21. Original Certificate should not be attached with the application form. Directorate
General of Recruiting , Adjutant General’s Branch, Integrated Headquarters, Ministry
of Defence (Army) will not take responsibility for loss of original certificates, if attached
with application. Photo should be pasted and not stapled . Attestation made on the
back side of the photo will not be entertained.
ESSENTIAL CERTIFICATES
(a) Matriculation Certificate issued by the Board concerned (CBSE/State Boards/
CSCE) in which date of birth is reflected and no subsequent request for change
in Date of Birth will be considered or granted. (Admit Card/ Marksheet/ Transfer/
Leaving Certificate etc. are not acceptable) (b) Either the Original Degree
certificate for BE/B Tech or independent marksheet of all years/semesters/parts of
Engineering Degree for those candidates who have already passed. (c) For those
who are in the final year/semester of BE/B.Tech Degree Course, a bonafide
certificate from the principal/Head of the Institution stating that the candidate is
in the final year of BE/B.Tech Degree and that the final year exams will be over
before 01 Apr 2014, is required
Note: (a) The application as forwarded in response to the above advertisement
is valid for 42nd SSC (Tech) Men and 13th SSC (Tech) Women course only and
will not be considered for any other course whatsoever.
22. IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
(a) Application must be sent in the format given in Army Website
www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. The application will be screened and shortlisted based
on aggregate percentage of marks obtained by candidates at Integrated Headquarters
of Ministry of Defence (Army)/Dte Gen Rtg and the candidate thereafter will be
detailed for SSB. (b) Application must be accompanied by attested (By a Gazetted
Officer of the Central/State Govt/1 st Class Magistrate etc.) photocopies of 10th class
certificate issued by the Board concerned (CBSE/State Boards/ICSCE) in which date
of birth is reflected for proof of date of birth (Admit card/Marksheet/Transfer/Leaving
Certificate etc. are not acceptable for proof of date of birth) and 10+2 certificate and
Marksheet for proof of education. Revised marksheets issued by a Board/ University
after last date of receipt of application will not be acepted for this course. However,
the same will be accepted for the subsequent course. (c) Shortlisted candidates will
be detailed to undergo SSB interview from Dec 2013 onwards. No compensation will
be paid in respect of any injury sustained as a result of test conducted at SSB. All
application received late or incomplete will be rejected outright. No intimation will
be given to the candidate in writing or verbally to submit fresh application/certificate
or any other required documents.
23. CHANGE OF INTERVIEW DATES: Request for change of SSB interview date
should be avoided. However under most unavoidable circumstances, such change
may be considered based on the circumstances of the case. This will be an exception
rather the rule. Request for such change should be forwarded to Selection Centre
from where the call up letter for SSB interview has been received and not to Directorate
General Recruiting. The Selection Centre may Permit change of date at their
discretion.

25. ENTITLEMENT FOR TRAVELLING ALLOWANCES Candidates appearing for
SSB interview for the first time for a particular type of commission, shall be
entitled to AC-III tier to and fro railway fare or Bus fare including reservation cum
sleeper charges wihin the Indian limils. Candidates who apply again for the same
type of commission will not be entitled to travelling allowances on any subseqent
occasion.

IMPORTANT NOTE : A candidate is permitted to apply only for one entry/discipline of
above course. Change of entry / qualification choice will not be entertained. Candidates
are advised to submit only one application. Forwarding of double application will
result in outright rejection of application and candidature of such candidates will be
cancelled.
(c) Widows of Defence Personnel, including those with childeren who have died in
harness, will be eligible to apply for SSCW (Tech) and SSCW (Non Tech). They will be
eligible only if they have not remarried. The unfilled vacancies will revert to the
category other than that of widows. Upper age limit will be relaxable upto four years
in respect of such candidates. The following documents are to be attached with the
application. (i) Initial Report of Battle Casualty, (ii) Detailed report of Battle Casualty,
(iii) Battle Casualty certificate (iv) Part-II Order of demise husband (v) Part-II Order of
NOK. The envelop containing the application should be superscribed in Red ink
indicating clearly the name of the officer with rank. For example, Widow of late .......,
Candidates will apply OFF LINE directly to Integrated HQ of Min of Defence (Army),
AG’s Branch, DG Rtg/ Rtg - 6 (WE) Section, West Block - III, RK Puram, New Delhi
- 110066 in the application format given in Army website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in
provided they possess the laid down educational qualification and selection criteria.
The last date of reciept of application is 30 Aug 2013. Applications receipt after
last date will not be entertained.
(d) EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION: For Engineers (Men and Women). Candidates
studying in the Final Year of Engineering Degree and who are qualified graduates of
the Degree Course in Engineering will be eligible to apply. The qualified graduates of
the Degree Course must possess Engineering Degree at the time of joining training.
The candidates studying in the final year of Degree Course, if not already in possession
of the Degree Certificate should be able to produce the Engineering Degree within 12
weeks from the date of commencement of training at OTA. Such candidates will be
inducted for training at OTA on Additional Bond Basis for recovery of the cost of
training as notified from time to time as well as stipend and pay & allowances paid, in
case they fail to produce the requisite degree certificate.
Important Note :- Candidates must note that the minimum educational qualification
for induction into SSC(Tech)-42course and SSCW (Tech)- 13 course is BE/B.Tech
degree in the engineering stream notified in Para (1)(a) above. Therefore, to become
eligible for induction into SSC(Tech)-42Men course and SSCW (Tech)- 13 Women
course, candidates studying in final year of engineering must complete all the formlities
including viva voc e etc for award of qualifying BE/B.Tech degree before
commencement of course, failing which their candidature is liable to be cancelled.
2. CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY
(a) NATIONALITY: A candidate must either be (i) a citizen of India or (ii) a subject
of Nepal or (iii) a subject of Bhutan or (iv) Tibetan origin but of Indian domicile,
whose parents entered India as refugees prior to 1st January 1962 with intention
of permanently settling in India. (v) a person of Indian origin who migrated from
Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and East African countries like Kenya, Uganda,
United Republic of Tanzania, Zambi, Malawai, Zaire, Ethopia and Vietnam with
the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging
to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a
certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Certificate of
eligibility will however not be necessary in the case of candidate who are Gorkhas
subject of Nepal.
(b) Candidates withdrawn from IMA/OTA/Naval Academy/Air Force Academy on
disciplinary ground are not eligible to apply.
(c) PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
(i) HEIGHT & WEIGHT: The minimum acceptable height and weight for men is
157.5 cms with correlated weight and for women candidate is 152 cm and 42 kg.
In case of candidates belonging to the North East and hilly areas like Gorkhas,
Nepalese, Assamese and Garhwalis, the height will be relaxed by 5 cms and weight
commensurate with reduced height. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep, the
minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2cms.
(ii) VISUAL STANDARDS: The minimum acceptable visual acuity are: Distant vision
(corrected) better eye 6/6, worse 6/18, Myopia of not more than minus 3.5 including
Astigmation. Candidates who have undergone or have evidence for having undergone
Radial Karatotomy to improve the visual acuity will be permanently rejected.
Candidates who have undergone Lasik Surgery for Correction of reflective error are
NOT acceptable.
(iii) PERMANENT BODY TATTOOS: Permanent body tattoos are only permitted
on inner face of forearm i.e, from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse
side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand. Permanent body tattoos on any other part
of the body are not acceptable and candidates will be barred from further selection.
Tribes with tattoos mark on the face or body as per their existing custom and
traditions will be permitted on a case to case basis.
(iv) To be passed fit, a candidate must be in good physical and mental health free
from any disability likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duty.
(v) Prospective candidates are advised to excercise and keep themselves physically
fit, in order to avoid any injury due to the rigorous physical training at OTA Chennai.
In order to be able to adjust to the regime the candidates are advised to achieve
following standards before joining the OTA, if finally selected:-
(a) Running 2.4 Km in 15 minutes. (b) Push up - 13 Nos. (c) Sit ups - 25 Nos.
(d) Chin ups- 6 Nos. (e) Rope climbing - 3-4 meter.
3. METHOD OF SELECTION:
(a) SHORTLISTING OF APPLICATIONS AND SSB INTERVIEWS: Army Headquarters
reserves the right to shorlist applications and to fix cutoff percentage of marks
without assigning any reason. Initial checking of applications will be done at
Directorate General Recruiting, Army Hqs. Only shorlisted eligible candidates
depending on aggregate percentage of marks scored will be called for and
assessed under aegis of Selection Centres, namely Allahabad (UP), Bhopal (MP)
and Bangalore (Karnataka) by Psychologist, Group Testing Officer and Interviewing
Officer. Candidates will not be interviewed locally. Allotment of Selection Centre
is at the discretion of Army Headquarters and no requests of changes are entertained
in this regard.
(b) TWO STAGE SELECTION PROCEDURE: Two stage selection procedure based
on Psychological Aptitude Test is held at Selection Centres. All the candidates will
face stage one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centres. The candidates
who qualify in stage one will be admitted to the second stage/remaining tests.
Those who fail to pass stage one will be returned on the same date.
(c) MERIT LIST: IT IS TO BE NOTED THAT MERE QUALIFYING AT THE SSB
INTERVIEW DOES NOT CONFIRM FINAL SELECTION. A MERIT LIST IS PREPARED
FOR EVERY QUALIFICATION SUBJECT SEPARATELY PURELY ON THE BASIS OF
MARKS OBTAINED BY THE CANDIDATES IN SSB INTERVIEW AND AS SUCH
HIGHER EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION, PREVIOUS PERFORMANCES, NCC
BACKGROUND ETC HAVE NO ROLE TO PLAY. THOSE HIGH IN THE MERIT LIST
AND WHO COME WITHIN THE STIPULATED VACANCIES AND ARE MEDICALLY
FIT ARE ISSUED JOINING INSTRUCTION FOR PRECOMMISSIONING TRAINING.
(d) The merit list of the recommended candidates will be displayed at the reception
of DG RTG and Indian Army Website i.e. www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.
4. MEDICAL EXAMINATION: A candidate recommended by the Service Selection
Board will undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers.
The proceedings of the Medical Board are confidential and will not be divulged
to anyone. However, candidates declared unfit by the Special Medical Board
(SMB) will be intimated by the president of the Special Medical Board (SMB) the
procedure for request for Appeal Medical Board (AMB). Unfit Candidates should
report for AMB within a maximum period of 42 days. Candidates are advised in
their own interest to appear for AMB well in time and should not wait for the last
date given by the SMB. Candidates are advised to note that Recruiting Directorate
has no role to play in Appeal Medical Boards and procedure advised by the
medical authorities is strictly to be adhered to. Candidates declared unfit by AMB
will be intimated by the President, AMB about procedure to challenge the finding
of AMB. Candidates will also be intimated that Review Medical Board (RMB) will
be granted at the discretion of DGAFMS based on the merits of the case and that
RMB is not a matter of right. Candidates will be considered medically fit only on
receipt of the approved Medical documents from Directorate General Medical
Services in Dte Gen Rtg. (b) Pregnancy, if detected at any stage, after selection
at SSB or during training will debar the candidate from grant of commission.
Note : Candidates are advised in their own interest to undergo a preliminary
medical check up for wax in ears, DNS, defective colour vision, over weight/under
weight, piles, gynaecomasties, tonsilitis and visicocle before reporting for the SSB
interview.
5. TRAINING AND PROPECTS : (a) Selected candiates will be detailed for training
at Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai according to their position in the final order
of merit, discipline wise upto the number of vacancies available at the time
(b) Duration of training - 49 weeks (c) Engineering Graduates will be granted Short
Service Commission (on probation) and will be entitled to draw full pay and
allowances admissible to Lt during training period. Pay and allowances will be
paid after successful completion of training. (d) Candidates will neither be allowed
to marry during the period of training nor will He/She be allowed to live with
parents/Guardians. Candidates must not marry until they complete the full training
at the Officers Training Academy. A candidate, who married subsequent to the date
of his/her application though successful at the Service Selection Board interview
or medical examination, will not be inducted for taining. A candidate if he/she
marries, while under training, shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all
expenditure incurred on him/her by the government. It is also applicable to widows
of Defence Personnel. (e) Training at OTA is at Govt. expense All candidates who
successfully complete Pre-Commission training at Officers Training Academy,
Chennai will be awarded “ Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management and
Strategic Studies” by University of Madras. (f) SSC (Tech) Engineering Graduate
will be confirmed in Short Service Commission with an ante date seniority of one
year from date of commission. (g) Widows of Defence personnel selected for SSC
(NT) entry will be granted Short Service Commission in the rank of Lt but will not
be entitled to any ante date seniority. (h) Ante Date Seniority. One year ante date
seniority from date of commission will be applicable for Men and Women officers
having Engineering Degree (BE/B.Tech) from a recognized institution/university.
6. The final allocation of Arms/ Services will be made prior to passing out of Lady/
Gentlemen Cadets from OTA and will be the sole discretion of Integrated HQ, Min
of Defence (Army) keeping in view the existing policy. No representation is tenable
on this account.
7. SUITABILITY TO RETAIN SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION: If an Officer is reported
upon within a period of six months from the date of confirmation of Short Service
Commission as unsuitable to retain his commission, his commission may be
terminated at any time, whether before or after the above period.
8. LIABILITY OF SERVICE: Officers may be granted Short Service Commission in
any arms/services and will be liable for service in any part of the world on selected
appointments as decided by Army Headquarters from time to time.
9. TENURE OF ENGAGEMENT: Short Service Commision to Officers (Male and
Female) in the regular Army will be granted for 14 years i.e. for an initial period
of 10 years extendable by a furhter period of 04 years. Male Officers who are
willing to continue to serve in the Army after the expiry of period of ten years in
Short Service Commission may, if eligible and suitable in all respects, be considered
for the grant of permanent commission in the 10th years of their Short Service
Commission in accordance with the relevant rules. Those SSC officers who are not
selected for grant of PC but are otherwise considered fit and suitable, will be given option
to continue as SSCOs for a total period of 14 years (including the initial tenure of 10 years)
on expiry of which they will be released from the Army. SSC (Tech) Women Officers are
not eligible for permanent commission. However, they can opt for extension of up to
14 years of service.

NOTE: In the case of allowances specific to Defence Forces, the rates of these
allowance have been further enhanced by 25% as Dearnes allowance has gone

11. COST TO COMPANY (CTC) The CTC for a Lieutenant would be approxmiately
Rs. 65000/- per month. This includes Basic Pay, DA, Grade Pay, Military Service
Pay, Tech Pay, House Rent Allowance and Transport Allowance. These rates are
not statutory and are subject to change.
12. PRIVILEGES. In addition to the CTC mentioned above, Army provides free
Medical facilities for Self & dependents, Canteen facilities, Entitled Ration, Mess/
Club/Sports facilities, Furnished Govt Accommodation, Car/Housing Loan at
subsidised rate.
13. GROUP INSURANCE AND GRATUITY. The Gentleman cadets of OTA in reciept
of stipend are insured for Rs. 40 lac w.e.f. 01 Apr 2011. Those who get medically
boarded out of Academy on account of disability, the disability cover provided for
100% disability will be Rs. 20 lac which is proportionately reduced upto Rs. 4 lac
for 20% disability. However, for less than 20% disability, only an ex gratia grant
of Rs. 50,000/- will be paid. Disability due to alcohalism, drug addiction and due
to the diseases of pre enrolment origin will not qualify for disability benefits and
ex gratia grant. In addition, Gentleman cadet withdrawn on disciplinary ground,
expelled as an undesirable or voluntarily leaving the Academy will also not be
eligible for disablity benefits and ex gratia. Subscription at the rate of
Rs. 4,000/- will have to be paid in advance on monthly basis by the Gentleman
cadets in receipt of stipend and will become members of the main Army Group
Insurance Scheme as applicable to regular Army Officers. Gratuity will be granted
to the officers as per the latest rules in force.
14. LEAVE ENTITLEMENTS. On commission, officers are entitles to 60 days annual
and 20 days casual leave every year (subject to service exigencies). They are
also entilted for 40% rail concession to any place and free travel (as per extant
rules) for self and family. Leave during training period will be as per the Training
Policy in force.
15. SPORTS & ADVENTURE. The Army provides facilities to pursue any sport of
your liking. In addition, one can learn and participate in adventure sports, such
as River Rafting, Mountaineering, Hot air balooning, Hand gliding, Horse Riding
etc.
16. PHYSICAL FITNESS. In OTA curriculam, a lot of emphasis is laid on Physical
Fitness. You are therefore, advised to remain fit through physical exercises, sports,
running, swimming, etc. so that you meet training goals successfully.
17. STIPENED / PAY DURING TRAINING: During the period of training the
candidates will be given stipened of Rs. 21000/- per month (Rs. 15600/- as pay
in Pay Band + Grade Pay 5400/-). On completion of training officers are
commissioned as Lt and entitled to the pay scale as given in para 10 above.
18. RESERVE LIABILITY: SSC Officer’s on release before or on expiry of contractual
length of service will carry reserve liability to serve Army for five years plus two years
on voluntary basis or upto the age of 37 years for women and 40 years for men
whichever is earlier.
19. HOW TO APPLY (Only online): Application will only be accepted online. To do so
the candidates needs to click on the “online application” button on website
www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.
(a) The online form is self explaintory please follow the instruction terms and
conditions given on the form.
(b) Filling up of online application : Visit website joinindianarmy.nic.in and proceed
as follows:-
(i) Click on Officers Menu button. Go to How to apply button and then click apply
online for the particular entry on the home page.
(ii) Fill the online registration form. Tips to assist in filling up fields have been
provided as you click on each field.
(iii) While filling online application it is advisable to keep the relevant documents
readily available as details are to be filled as per matriculation and other
educational certificates.
(iv) Before clicking the submit button it should be checked whether all details
entered in the form are correct as you will not be able to make any corrections
after saving the record.
(v) After submitting the form and acknowledgement of successful submission generated
roll number the buttons of print and save the application will appear. It is
advisable to first save the online application and then take a print out.
(vi) After submitting online application, candidates are required to obtain two copies
of the application printout. One copy of print out application duly signed and
affixed photogrph attested by Gazzetted Officer thereon and 10th Class certificate,
12th Class certificate, Degree/Provisional Degree and marksheets of eight
semesters of B.E/B.Tech, all in orginal alongwith two attested photocopies of
all the above certificates are to be carried out to the Selection Centre by the
candidate. Orginal will be returned after verification by the Selection Centre.
The second copy of the print out of online application is to be retained by the
candidate for his reference. No need to send any hard copy to DG Rtg / Rtg Dte.
(vii) Candidates must submit only one application. Receipt of multiple applications
from the same candidate will result in cancellation of candidature.
20. Any change in your postal address after submission of application must be
communicated by post duly quoting your Roll No., Name and course opted for.
21. Original Certificate should not be attached with the application form. Directorate
General of Recruiting , Adjutant General’s Branch, Integrated Headquarters, Ministry
of Defence (Army) will not take responsibility for loss of original certificates, if attached
with application. Photo should be pasted and not stapled . Attestation made on the
back side of the photo will not be entertained.
ESSENTIAL CERTIFICATES
(a) Matriculation Certificate issued by the Board concerned (CBSE/State Boards/
CSCE) in which date of birth is reflected and no subsequent request for change
in Date of Birth will be considered or granted. (Admit Card/ Marksheet/ Transfer/

in the final year of BE/B.Tech Degree and that the final year exams will be over
before 01 Apr 2014, is required
Note: (a) The application as forwarded in response to the above advertisement
is valid for 42nd SSC (Tech) Men and 13th SSC (Tech) Women course only and
will not be considered for any other course whatsoever.
22. IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
(a) Application must be sent in the format given in Army Website
www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. The application will be screened and shortlisted based
on aggregate percentage of marks obtained by candidates at Integrated Headquarters
of Ministry of Defence (Army)/Dte Gen Rtg and the candidate thereafter will be
detailed for SSB. (b) Application must be accompanied by attested (By a Gazetted
Officer of the Central/State Govt/1 st Class Magistrate etc.) photocopies of 10th class
certificate issued by the Board concerned (CBSE/State Boards/ICSCE) in which date
of birth is reflected for proof of date of birth (Admit card/Marksheet/Transfer/Leaving
Certificate etc. are not acceptable for proof of date of birth) and 10+2 certificate and
Marksheet for proof of education. Revised marksheets issued by a Board/ University
after last date of receipt of application will not be acepted for this course. However,
the same will be accepted for the subsequent course. (c) Shortlisted candidates will
be detailed to undergo SSB interview from Dec 2013 onwards. No compensation will
be paid in respect of any injury sustained as a result of test conducted at SSB. All
application received late or incomplete will be rejected outright. No intimation will
be given to the candidate in writing or verbally to submit fresh application/certificate
or any other required documents.
23. CHANGE OF INTERVIEW DATES: Request for change of SSB interview date
should be avoided. However under most unavoidable circumstances, such change
may be considered based on the circumstances of the case. This will be an exception
rather the rule. Request for such change should be forwarded to Selection Centre
from where the call up letter for SSB interview has been received and not to Directorate
General Recruiting. The Selection Centre may Permit change of date at their
discretion.
24. REASONS FOR REJECTION OF APPLICATION:
(a) Candidates not signed in signature block of printout. (b) Incomplete applications
in any respect and/or without copies of requisite certificate(s). Documents submitted
at a later stage will not be entertained.(c) Variation in names and spellings as
recorded in application/Matric or equivalent certificate not supported by affidavite.
(d) Non-attached of copy of 10th class certificate for age proof and 12th class Marksheet
for proof of PCM% duly attested by a Govt. Gazetted Officer. No other certificate is
valid for authentication of age. (e) Without photograph Attested by Gazzetted Officer
affixed on application form (g) Application not signed by Candidate (f) Submission of
more than ONE application. (g Non-receipt of applications on/before due date of
submission of applications (h) Any ambiguity/erasures/unattested cuttings/false
information/concealment of information detected in the above certificate will result
in cancellation of the candidature at any stage of selection.
25. ENTITLEMENT FOR TRAVELLING ALLOWANCES Candidates appearing for
SSB interview for the first time for a particular type of commission, shall be
entitled to AC-III tier to and fro railway fare or Bus fare including reservation cum
sleeper charges wihin the Indian limils. Candidates who apply again for the same
type of commission will not be entitled to travelling allowances on any subseqent
occasion.
