As per Government of India’s Policy, there is a reservation for persons, belonging to
socially and educationally backward classes and persons with Disabilities (Physically
Handicapped Persons) in education. All reservations are not of the same nature. There are
two types of reservations, which may, for the sake of convenience, be referred to as
“Vertical Reservations” and “Horizontal Reservations”. The reservations in favour of
Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), made under
article 16 (4), may be called vertical reservations whereas reservations in favour of

horizontal reservations. Horizontal reservations cut across the vertical reservations, called
as “interlocking reservation”.
3.1 Percentage of Reservation:
As per Government of India Rules, there is a reservation of 27% of seats for the
OBCs, 15% of seats for the SCs and 7.5% of seats for the STs in admission to various

horizontal reservations, is interlocking reservations, the candidate selected against this
quota will be placed in the appropriate category, that is, if the candidate belongs to SC/ST

the marks obtained in the respective subject out of 8 (Grade Point)
The Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) for all the six semester is also mentioned
at the end of every semester.
The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is used to describe the overall

6 / 4
ฮฃ SGPA (n) Cn
n=1
CGPA =
6 / 4
ฮฃ Cn
n=1
Where SGPA (n) is the nth Semester SGPA of the student and Cn is the nth
