Selection Process:
(a) Puducherry State Candidates:
  • Admission shall be based on GATE percentile. In case of a tie in the GATE score, the aggregate marks of the qualifying examination (3rd semester to 8th semester) will be the criteria for selection.
  • Vacancies arising in seats allotted for GATE candidates will be filled up by the non GATE candidates of Puducherry/ failing which by GATE candidates from other states / UT’s , failing which by non Gate Candidates from other states / UT’s.
  • The selection of Non GATE candidates will be based on the performance in an entrance examination to be conducted by the CENTAC-PG.
  • The SC/ST vacancies of Puducherry quota will be filled by non GATE SC/ ST candidates of Puducherry origin, failing which, by GATE SC /ST candidates from Other States / Union Territories.

(b) Other State Candidates:
  • Admission shall be based on GATE percentile. In case of a tie in the GATE score, the aggregate marks of the qualifying examination (3rd semester to 8 semester) will be the criteria for selection.
  • Vacancies arising in seats allotted for GATE candidates from Other States / Union Territories will be filled up by non GATE candidates from other states, failing which, by the GATE/ non GATE candidates of Puducherry general, failing which, by sponsored candidates.
  • The selection of non GATE candidates will be based on the performance in an entrance examination to be conducted by the CENTAC-PG.
  • The SC/ ST vacancies of Other States / Union Territories will be filled by SC/ ST candidates of Puducherry origin with GATE score, failing which, by non GATE candidates.

(c) Sponsored Candidates:
  • Sponsored candidates shall be treated as non GATE candidates and (i) 40% weightage of marks for experience (at the rate of 4% for each completed year of experience excluding the first two years which is the minimum requirement, subject to a maximum of 40%) and (ii) 60% weightage of marks shall be given for the performance in entrance examination to be conducted by CENTAC-PG.
  • The aggregate of marks obtained in (i) and (ii) shall be the criteria for selection. Sponsored candidates must have two years of full time work experience after obtaining minimum qualification for admission in a registered firm/ company/ Industry/ Educational and Research Institution/ any Government Department/ Government Autonomous Organisation, in the relevant field in which admission is sought.
  • The sponsoring firm/ company/ industry should be a member of CII/ NSI/ Builders Association. The candidate sponsored should be a confirmed employee.
  • Vacancies arising in the seats allotted for sponsored category candidates will be filled up by respective Pondicherry and Other state category general candidates. A letter from the employer must be furnished stating that the candidate is being sponsored to get admission.
  • The employers should also indicate that the candidate will not be withdrawn midway before the completion of course.
  • The fee for the candidates should normally be borne by the sponsoring organisation wherever possible and the fees for the entire year should be paid in the beginning of the academic year.

(d) Non GATE Candidates:
  • The candidates under non-GATE and sponsored categories should obtain minimum percentile in the entrance examination as prescribed below: SC/ ST candidates should have obtained at least 10% of maximum mark obtained in that discipline.
  • The other candidates should have obtained at least 20% of maximum mark obtained in that discipline.
  • Separate merit list will be prepared for each M.Tech. programme based on the percentile obtained in the entrance examination.
