National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) , Admissions to Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes for the year 2013




National Brain Research Centre (NBRC) will select candidates through two different channels for admissions to Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes for the year 2013. 
  • Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Science (JGEEBILS). 
    *Examination already held.

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE-2012/GATE-2013).

  • Candidates will be short-listed for a two-tier interview based on their performance in the JGEEBILS examination or their score in the GATE examination.


    Programmes offered at NBRC


  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience:

  • NBRC offers a Ph.D. programme in Neuroscience. Students from diverse backgrounds are considered for this programme. Fellowship for Junior Research Fellows is Rs.16000 per month and for Senior Research Fellows it is Rs.18000 per month.


  • Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. in Neuroscience:

  • NBRC is one of the first Institutes in the country to develop an Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programme in Neuroscience. These students are provided a fellowship of Rs.5000 per month for the first two years. From third year, they are paid fellowships on par with the Ph.D. students. After completion of the programme, the students will be awarded both M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. 

    Students are provided hostel accommodation on campus.

    Eligibility

  • Ph.D. (NEUROSCIENCE)
  • Master's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences/Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer applications/Pharmacy/Veterinary Science/Psychology from a recognized Institute/University or A minimum of four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering/Technology/Medicine from a recognized Institute/University.

    Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.

    Only the candidates with at least 55% (for SC/ST/PH candidates, 50%) marks or equivalent grade from secondary (10th) examination onwards will be considered. Candidates should calculate their percentage up to two decimal points without rounding off to determine their eligibility.

  • INTEGRATED M.Sc-Ph.D. (NEUROSCIENCE)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any branch of Science such as Life Sciences/Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer applications/Pharmacy/Veterinary Science/Psychology/Engineering/Technology/Medicine from a recognized Institute/University. 

    Candidates appearing for final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.

    Only the candidates with at least 55% (for SC/ST/PH candidates, 50%) marks or equivalent grade from secondary (10th) examination onwards will be considered. Candidates should calculate their percentage up to two decimal points without rounding off to determine their eligibility.

  • Reservation for SC/ST/PH candidates will be followed as per Government of India rules.

  • Application Procedure for GATE-2012/GATE-2013 Qualified Candidates


    NBRC is inviting applications from GATE qualified candidates (GATE 2012/2013) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology and Instrumentation Engineering for its Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes. These candidates should apply to NBRC with their GATE score. 

    The application can be submitted online or by post. 

    Online applications can be submitted at our web site: www.nbrc.ac.in 

    Offline applicants may download the prescribed application form from our website and send the completed application to the Registrar, National Brain Research Centre, Manesar-122 051, Dist. Gurgaon (Haryana). If you have trouble downloading the application form, you may send a request to admissions2013@nbrc.ac.in.

    Candidates who are eligible as per the eligibility criteria of NBRC for both Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. and Ph.D. programmes, if interested, may apply, by filling separate online application by using different email-id/offline application forms and by paying requisite fee separately for each programme.

    Both types of applicants (Online/Offline) need to send a Demand Draft for the requisite amount, drawn in favour ofDirector, National Brain Research Centre and payable at Gurgaon or Manesar (please write your Name, Programme Applied For, GATE Application Number, GATE Registration Number and Year Of Examination on the back side of Demand Draft). The Demand Draft should be sent by post to Registrar, National Brain Research Centre, Manesar-122 051, Dist. Gurgaon (Haryana). Last date for receipt of online & offline applicationsalong with Demand Draft at NBRC is 08th April 2013.

    The application fee should be submitted by a Demand Draft drawn in favour of Director, National Brain Research Centre payable at Gurgaon or Manesar. The candidates should send the Demand Draft to Registrar, National Brain Research Centre, Manesar-122051 Dist. Gurgaon (Haryana). Please write your name and course applied for on the back side of the Demand Draft. Candidates should write their GATE Application Number and GATE Registration Number with year of examination also on the back side of the Demand Draft.

  • Frequently Asked Questions


    1. I am eligible for both Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. and Ph.D. programmes. Can I apply for both the programmes?
    Candidates who are eligible as per the eligibility criteria of NBRC for both Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. and Ph.D. programmes, if interested, may apply for both programmes by filling separate online application forms (by using different email-ids) / offline application forms, and by paying requisite fee separately for each programme.

    2. Will there be different interviews for candidates short-listed through JGEEBILS and GATE?
    The interview for both JGEEBILS and GATE candidates will be held at the same time, and a single combined list of the selected candidates will be prepared.

    3. I appeared for both GATE & JGEEBILS and applied to NBRC by quoting JGEEBILS reference code. Can I apply now to NBRC by giving GATE Application Number and GATE Registration Number also?
    Yes, if you wish to be considered under both the streams you may apply again by quoting your 'GATE Application Number, GATE Registration Number ' and by paying requisite fee.

    4. I have done B.Tech. (Biotech) and qualified GATE. Can I apply to NBRC based on the GATE qualification?
    No, you should applied through JGEEBILS as only such GATE qualified candidates (in GATE 2012/2013) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology and Instrumentation Engineering may apply.

    5. I qualified GATE 2012. Can I apply to NBRC now?
    You may apply to NBRC between 1st February 2013 and 31st March 2013. For other eligibility criteria, please visit http://www.nbrc.ac.in/admissions_2013/eligibilty.html.

    6. How will the percentage be calculated for the candidates appearing in the final year of their qualifying degree?
    Candidates who are appearing for the final year of their qualifying degree are eligible to apply. If short-listed their selection will be provisional and subject to having an aggregate percentage of 55% (for SC/ST/PH 50%) or more all through their academic career starting from 10th class.

    7. I have 50% marks in X / XII standard and 60% in B.Sc. and I belong to SC category? Should I have 55% or more marks for applying?
    Concessions / Reservation to SC / ST and PH candidates will be as per Government of India rules / policy. Candidates belonging to SC / ST /PH categories are required to submit an attested copy of the certificate in support of their claim for reservation along with the Demand Draft they are sending to NBRC, failing which their application may not be considered.
    5% relaxation in percentage is given to SC/ST/PH candidates.

    8. I have 54.8% marks in X / XII standard. Whether my percentage can be rounded off making me eligible?
    No rounding off is permissible. Your percentage up to two decimal points should be mentioned. Candidates with a continuous track record of atleast 55% marks throughout the academic career starting from 10th class only will be considered. 5% relaxation in percentage is given only to SC/ST/PH candidates.

    9. How do I convert GPA to percentage?
    Candidates may convert their GPA to percentage as per the conversion factor of their institute / university and they need to produce a supporting document regarding that conversion factor.

    10. How do I pay the application fee?
    Applicants need to send a Demand Draft along with the following details on the back side of the Demand Draft:
    Name 
    Course Applied for. 
    GATE candidates should write their GATE Application Number and GATE Registration Number with year of examination. 

    The Demand Draft should be sent to the following address:

    NBRC will not be responsible for DD's missing in transit.

    11. Which documents do I have to send along with the offline application form?
    Offline applicants should send the following:
  • Application form duly filled in.

  • SC/ST or PH certificate if applicable.
