Applications are invited for Indian citizens for admission to the Ph.d. programmes for the session commencing from December 2013. Ph.D (ENGINEERING): M.Tech./ME./M.Sc.(Engg.) degree in the respective or allied area. The candidates with Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology or Master's degree in Sciences in an allied area with exceptional academic record and having a valid GATE score may also apply. For Ph.D. in BSBE, candidate with MBBS, B.Pharma or M.Pharma Degree may also apply. Candidate with Master's degree in Management may apply for Ph.D. in Industrial and Management Engineering (IME). Ph.D. (SCIENCES & HSS): M.Sc./M.A. Degree in respective or allied area with a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR score. Minimum Educational Qualification requirement for;

Ph.D. (Engineering): M.Tech./ME/M. Sc. (Engg.) degree or equivalent
B. Tech/BE/M. Sc. degree with a valid GATE score.

Ph.D. (Sciences and HSS): M.Sc./M.A. Degree in respective or equivalent area with a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR score.

Part-time/Sponsored Category Candidates: Three years of relevant experience is needed for those with M. Tech degree and five years of relevant experience is needed for those with B. Tech or M. Sc. degree. This category is only for those who are working in research labs or in similar institutions. Please note that no financial assistance will be provided under this category.

Financial Assistance:

Financial Assistance in the form of assistantship/ scholarship/ fellowship for a specified duration will be provided to eligible Ph.D. students (FULL TIME) as per the Institute norms or as per the funding agency norms (UGC / CSIR / DBT/ NBHM/ INSPIRE) of the assistantship.

For Law Programs: LL.M from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade.

• For Interdisciplinary Programs: Post graduation or equivalent qualification in the area of proposed research with minimum 55% mark or equivalent grade.

Instructions to Candidates

Applicants are required to submit the following:


1. Completed application form
2. A proposal of not more than 5000 words, containing:
a. Title of the proposed research
b. Statement of the problem, along with the background information on the subject
c. The scope, objectives and limitations of the proposed research
d. A set of research questions or hypothesis
e. A broad description of methodologies intended to be followed
f. A tentative research design containing chapterization

3. Attested photocopies of eligibility qualification certificates and mark sheets;
4. One set of published papers, monographs, articles and books (if applicable);
5. Certificate from the Institution concerned testifying the length of service (if
required) ;
6. A passport size photograph.

The selection process is as follows:

 Submitted application forms will to be screened, and candidates found eligible will be
required to appear for an entrance examination on 10

 Foreign nationals and candidates who have passed the NET or JRF examinations are
exempted from appearing in the entrance examination. In subjects where NET examinations
are not conducted, appearing for the admission examination is mandatory.
 Successful and exempted candidates are required to appear before a panel of experts and
present their research proposals.

 The date and time of presentations shall be intimated at a later date.  The decision of the panel on the presentation will be intimated separately.

i) Paper I – Research Methodology
ii) Paper II – Research Proposal specific paper

b) Each paper shall carry maximum of 100 marks and the candidate securing not less than 50%
marks in each paper will qualify for making an oral presentation before the expert panel.
