DBT Fellowship Award under Initiative on the Neuro-Clinical Research Education (INCRE):2013-14
The Department is keen towards creating of a pool of trained clinical researchers in the area of Neuroscience. The shortfall of clinical researchers is a crisis that will heavily impact the research scenario of Neuroscience research. Recognizing this critical need for neuro-researchers, the Department has dedicated its HRD efforts towards investing in young clinicians with an aptitude and interest in neuro-clinical research. The main objective of this initiative is to facilitate hypothesis-driven research designed to address important issues in neuroscience by clinicians.
Towards that aim, DBT invites applications under its “Initiative on Neuro-Clinical Research Education (INCRE) fellowship. There would be up to ELEVEN fellowships initially for this financial year, of one year duration that may be extendable for another year on case to case basis, based on performance review. Each fellowship will consist of a consolidated stipend of Rs. 75,000/- pm and Rs. 5.00 lakhs for one year to support research at an institution of repute.
Applicant may be D.M./ M.Ch or MD- Psychiatry and interested in pursuing Neuroscience research along with clinical responsibility; and has completed residency within the past five years. Those early in their clinical career will be given priority.
ELIGIBILITY
Applications would be evaluated by a duly constituted committee. The award would be based on the following criteria:

• Applicant’s ability and promise as a clinician-scientist based on prior record of achievement and career plan, letters of reference, and curriculum vitae
• Research proposal including the hypothesis, scientific rationale, methodology, etc as per the format available on the DBT website.
DEADLINE AND ADDRESS
Applications duly filled in and forwarded by the competent authority should be addressed to Dr. Bindu Dey, Adviser, Medical Division, Department of Biotechnology, Room No. 813, 8th Floor, Block-2, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003.

2. A letter of nomination from the Department forwarded by the Head/Competent Authority of the Institute, including assurance that clinical service responsibilities will be restricted to no more than 20 percent of the fellow’s time.
3. A brief research plan as per the format
4. Two references for the applicant’s potential for clinical/academic research career and qualifications for the fellowship.
5. The candidate should identify a mentor from the host institute and obtain a letter from him/her detailing the support and commitment to the applicant and the proposed research and training plan. The letter should specifically indicate the mentor’s role in the development and preparation of the applicant’s research plan. Mentor’s CV should also be enclosed.
6. Letter of support from the host institution. Host institute should be duly recognized academic/research institution and willing to accept and extend necessary support to the candidate for the proposed research work.
