SET Test for Symbiosis Undergraduate Programmes
Symbiosis Entrance Test Overview
Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is a common written test for the admission processes of
undergraduate institutes of Symbiosis International University established as under Section 3 of
the UGC Act 1956 vide notification No.F.9.12/2001 U.3 of the Govt. of India. In the year 2002
there were 3 constituent institutes of SIU. Subsequently ten more Institutes of Symbiosis have
been brought under the ambit of Symbiosis International University vide notification
No.F.9.12/2006-U.3 (A).
It is a mandatory written test for the admission process for the undergraduate programmes of the
following Symbiosis institutes namely:-
1. Symbiosis Law School.[SLS] - Pune
2. Symbiosis Law School.[SLS] – Noida
3.Symbiosis Institute of Computers Studies and Research [SICSR]
4.Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies[SCMS-UG] – Pune
5.Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication [SIMC-UG]
6.Symbiosis School of Economics [SSE]
7.Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies[SCMS]-Noida
8.Symbiosis Institute of Design [SID]
However, SET is not mandatory for the Symbiosis instititute of Technology (SIT), Symbiosis
Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS), Symbiosis College of Nursing (SCON) and Symbiosis School of
Liberal Arts (SSLA).
Note: Candidates those who are applying to Symbiosis Institute of Technology (SIT)
and Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS), Symbiosis School of Nursing
(SCON) and Symbiosis School of Liberal Arts (SSLA) should visit their websites for
further details.
Candidate should note that SET is only the first step. Each Symbiosis institute has its
independent selection process.
· SET-2013 has 5 different papers; namely, General, Design, Law, Engineering and Health
Sciences.
· The test will be conducted in two sessions, morning and afternoon.
· A candidate may take more than one paper. However, he will have to choose one paper
from morning session and one paper from afternoon session.

A candidate aspiring to pursue an undergraduate programme at Symbiosis should
carefully follow the actions to be taken in 3 stages mentioned below:
Stage-1: SET Test
· Register online at www.set-test.org
· You may register for one paper in the morning; viz, Law or Engineering or Health
Sciences and one paper in the afternoon session; viz, General or Design.
For Engineering and Health Sciences, if a candidate wishes to offer scores other
than SET, he/she need not register for SET and apply directly to the concerned
institute.
· You need to upload your latest scanned photograph at the time of registration.
· Follow the instructions for payment of test fee of Rs. 1500/- on the SET website. This
includes charges for prospectus of the undergraduate programmes at Symbiosis
International University.
· Print “admit card” directly from the SET website from April 24, 2013 onwards.
· Bring the admit card and a photo identity to the test centre. It will be authenticated during
the Test.
(Candidates shall preserve the authenticated admit card till the admission processes of the
desired Symbiosis institutes are over. If the admit card is lost, no duplicate admit
card will be issued.)
· Appear for the test.
Stage-2: Apply online to the desired SIU’s constituent institutes.
· The SET website ( www.set-test.org ) allows a facility to directly apply online to an institute.
· Candidates may also apply from the institute’s website.
· To apply for admission to an institute, a candidate must register for the relevant SET paper.
For example, to apply to Symbiosis Law School, register for Law paper at SET.
· Candidates applying to Symbiosis Institute of Technology (SIT), Symbiosis Institute of
Health Sciences (SIHS), Symbiosis College Of Nursing (SCON) or Symbiosis School of Liberal
Arts [SSLA] with other than SET-2013 score should refer to the respective institute websites
and apply.
Stage-3: Attend further selection process of the chosen institutes, if invited.
· Each institute has its own cutoff, as mentioned in the prospectus.
· The institutes will announce short listed candidates for attending further selection process.
· The individual institute as per their schedules will announce short listed candidates list &
waiting list.
· For details of selection process and schedules, please refer to the website of respective
institute(s).
Important
· While adequate care is taken in ensuring that there are no mistakes in reading the answer
sheet by the scanning machine, there is no provision of revaluation of the answer sheet of
any candidate.
· The scores published by the Symbiosis Test Secretariat shall be final and shall not be
subject to any appeal or revaluation.
· The SET score card will be available on the website for a period of one month from the date
of declaration of results i.e. from May 20, 2013 to June 20, 2013.
· Those candidates paying through cash or DD, should ensure that,
1. Bank challan for cash payment, or
2. Demand Draft along with payment advice form for DD payment reaches

· To complete registration process, a candidate is required to register online for SET Test
at www.set-test.org and appear for the test. It is also mandatory to complete
registration by filling up the on line application form of desired institute for
desired programme before the closing date of application for the respective institute.
SET Structure
a. Duration: SET duration is 150 minutes.
b. SET is an objective test.
c. Papers: SET is conducted in two sessions for FIVE question papers.
A candidate may apply to take one paper from each session.
d. Institutes: The constituent institutes use scores of the following for admission.
SET is an aptitude test and objective in nature for all the papers. Each question has four options
as answers. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.

How to Register For SET – 2013?
Step 1. A candidate can register for one paper from the morning session; viz, Law or Engineering
or Health Sciences and one paper from the afternoon session; viz, General or Design
Register at www.set-test.org This will generate your SET ID.
You need to upload your latest scanned photograph (in the given format and size) at the time
of online registration.
Step 2. Pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 1500/- towards the test fee and for prospectus of
undergraduate programmes of Symbiosis International University. The SIU Admission Cell will
courier a copy of prospectus to the address registered at www.set-test.org
Candidates have four (4) choices for payment as follows,
1. CASH:
This ‘Payment Advice’ form is in three parts. Pay Rs. 1500/- in cash at Axis
Bank or Indian Bank branches in your city. Refer to the list of branches on the
website. The bank will return two parts of the ‘payment advice’ form to you.
The ‘student copy’ is your receipt.
Sign the Symbiosis copy of the ‘Payment Slip’ form stamped by Axis Bank or
Indian Bank and send it to:-

2. DEMAND DRAFT:
Get a crossed demand draft for Rs. 1500/- from any Nationalized Bank in

3. ONLINE PAYMENT THROUGH CREDIT CARD:
You may pay directly through either Master or Visa card online.
Follow the instructions given in the SET website.
4. ONLINE PAYMENT THROUGH NET BANKING:
You may transfer your SET test fee to Symbiosis Test Secretariat account using
Net Banking option.
Note:
Please note that Symbiosis Test Secretariat will not be responsible for nondelivery
on any delay on the part of courier / postal services.
It is also mandatory to complete registration by filling up the on line application form of desired
institute for desired programme before the closing date of application of the respective institute.

Step 3. Admit card should be printed from the website. This will be operative from April 24,
2013 to May 04, 2013.
Log in with SET ID and password in SET website.
Download and take print out of this.
Bring the admit card to the test center along with a photo-identity proof.
An acceptable photo identity is any one of the following:
· Passport
· Driving license
· College / Institute identity card
· Credit card with photograph
· Voter Id Card
At the time of the written test, it is mandatory to produce the photo identity as
described here. An official nominated by Symbiosis will verify and authenticate
your admit card against the photo-id.
Please preserve this authenticated admit card for further selection processes of
individual Institutes.
Note: Please note that no duplicate admit card will be issued in case it is
lost by the candidate.
Important:
SET registration fee is non-refundable. Please note that claims for refund of the SET
registration fee will not be entertained on any account.
At the time of filling online application form or while appearing for SET test, any
attempt to impersonate or indulge in any other malpractice would automatically
disqualify the candidate from admission processes of all under graduate institutes of
Symbiosis International University and make the student liable to legal prosecution
as per the laws of country.
Every student is urged to note that no donation or capitation fee is required to be
paid for admission to any of the Symbiosis institutes. Students are cautioned
against falling prey to any such assurance/offer by any individual or outside agency.

How to apply to Undergraduate Institutes of Symbiosis International University?
You may apply online for admission to an undergraduate institute of the University. The application
fee is Rs. 1000/- per institute, except for SICSR. (The application fee for SICSR is Rs. 1000/- for one
programme and Rs.2000/- for two programmes).
There are two options to apply for admission to an institute:-
1. From SET website.
While paying SET fees online, a candidate may also pay the application fee for admission to a
desired institute.
Even after closing of the payment for SET, a candidate may still apply through SET website.
2. From the institute website.
A candidate may also register separately for SET and applying to an institute. However, SET
registration and appearing for the test is mandatory.
It is important to see that a candidate appears for the appropriate SET paper to seek
admission.
An institute may also be offering more than one programme. A candidate should ensure the
desired programme is selected.
You cannot apply to an institute that does not accept the score of the test that you choose to
give. For example, if you choose to give the General test only, you cannot apply to SLS.
Similarly, if you choose to give the Law test only, you cannot apply to SSE or SCMS (UG) or
SICSR.
You may give both tests and apply to all the four institutes.
Similarly, you may give the Design test and the Engineering/ Health Sciences test and also
apply to SID, SIT, SIHS and SCON.
After declaration of the SET result, the institute to which you have applied will conduct further
selection process for short listed candidates. The schedule for the same will be published on the
websites of the institute.

Post-Graduate programs: The LLM program with an interdisciplinary approach with five

PG DIploma in Thermal Power plant engineering


ABOUT THE COURSE
This is a one year course consisting of 2 semesters covering formal training at institutes and on-job training at thermal plants. This course is conducted at Regional Institutes of NPTI located at Badarpur (New Delhi), Nangal (Punjab), Neyveli(Tamilnadu),Durgapur(WB),Guwahati (Assam) and Nagpur(Maharashtra), whereas the Simulator training forming an integral part of the course shall be conducted at Badarpur / Faridabad / Nagpur Institutes. The modules of the course are listed in the detailed curriculum. The sequence of these modules is not rigid and may be modified suiting to local conditions. NPTI have been conducting 52 week Graduate Engineers Course in the areas of Thermal Power Plant Engineering for the last four decades and have achieved a level of confidence and competence in conducting this course with consistency. PLACEMENT In order to provide career opportunities in the Indian Power Sector, NPTI maintains close linkages with the power utilities and reputed concerns for placement of these trained engineers. Who Can Apply
a) The candidates who have obtained
B.Tech. /B.E in Mechanical/Electrical / Power Engineering or its equivalent. Those appearing in their final year examination can also apply and they must submit their final degree/provisional degree issued by University at the time of counseling.
b) Graduate Engineers sponsored by
PSUs/Private Power Utilities with at least one year post qualification experience as on 1st July 2013, and minimum 60% marks in B.E./B.Tech./equivalent degree.


SELECTION CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION The Admission to this P.G. Diploma course will be done on Merit basis of Common Entrance Test (CET-2013) followed by counseling at NPTI Nagpur. CET-2013 will be held on 23/06/13 at 8 cities where NPTI institutes are located i.e. Delhi, Faridabad, Nangal, Neyveli, Bangalore, Durgapur, Guwahati and Nagpur. The course fees is Rs. 2,00,000/- + Service Tax @12.36% for Non-sponsored and Rs. 3,10,000/- + Service Tax @12.36% for Sponsored candidates. The candidate who is allotted a seat during counseling will be required to deposit the 1st installment fee of Rs. 20,000/- + Service Tax @12.36% (sponsored/Non-sponsored) immediately without which admission will not be confirmed. The payment of fees is only through Demand Draft favoring “NPTI Nagpur”, (Non-Refundable) as confirmation fee for Admission. No other mode of payment is acceptable. The Non sponsored candidates will be required to pay the balance fees of Rs. 1,80,000+ Service Tax @12.36% in two equal installments (i.e. 2nd Installment of Rs. 90,000 + Service Tax @12.36% at time of joining the institute and 3rd Installment of Rs. 90,000/- + Service Tax @12.36% on or before 25/11/2013) in the admitted Institute. The sponsored candidate will be required to pay the balance fees of Rs. 2,90,000/- + Service Tax @12.36% at time of joining in the admitted Institute in single installment. COMMON ENTRANCE TEST (CET) The duration of CET will be 150 minutes. The question paper will consist of multiple choice objective questions. Each correct answer will be of two (2) marks. Incorrect answer will result in negative marking of half (1/2) a mark. The details and grouping about the question paper are given at page no. 13. AGE LIMIT
For the non sponsored candidates maximum age limit as on 01/Jul/2013 is 27 years. However, there is no age limit for the sponsored candidates. Relaxation to the reserved category candidate is as per Govt. of India norms.


HOW TO APPLY Applications are to be filled online from our website www.npticet.com .The registration fee is Rs.900/- to be paid in the form of demand draft drawn in favour of “NPTI Nagpur” payable at Nagpur and the details of the demand draft to be given while filling online application. Each applicant will be given a unique ID on successful registration at site. This ID must be preserved for future references. Last date for online registration is 20/04/2013. One registration hardcopy along with the Demand Draft should be sent to the Principal Director, National Power Training Institute (WR), Nagpur - 440022 latest by 03/05/2013 before 1600 Hrs. The registration shall be confirmed online only after the receipt of the hard copy of registration details with Demand Draft.

The result of CET-2013 for all candidates who appeared for the exam will be displayed on the website on 13/07/2013 for each individual only. However for counseling purpose the list of candidates in each category who are short listed for counseling based on their rank in CET-2013 will be displayed on or before 13/07/2013. COMMON ENTRANCE TEST-2013 (CET-2013) The admission for Post Graduate Diploma in Thermal Power Plant Engineering course shall be based on a common entrance test (CET) comprising 180 objective type questions to be answered in duration of 2½ hours (150 minutes). The proposed date for the common entrance test is 23/06/2013, 11 AM. The test shall be conducted at eight (8) cities though out India viz. 1. Faridabad,(Haryana) 2, NewDelhi, 3. Nangal(Punjab) 4.Neyveli(TN) 5. Bangalore 6. Duagapur (WB) 7. Guwhati(Assam) 8. Nagpur (Maha.). No TA/DA will be paid for attending Test / Counseling for PGDC admission process. Candidates are advised to reach exam centre well in advance to avoid in-convenience. Reporting time at Centre of examination is 10 AM. The Common Entrance Test shall test the Basic Aptitude, General Engineering and the Engineering Discipline knowledge of individuals. The questions are to be answered on the OMR sheets provided. Negative marking is also done to avoid random marking. Each of the marked correct answer shall be rewarded two (2) marks and a wrong marking shall be penalized by (-1/2) marks.
